Shelby was born November 26, 1938 in Chowan County, NC to the late Edward and Willa Mae Bass Smith.
She worked for the Industries of the Blind for 22 years.
Shelby was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Edward Smith; sister, Joyce Mae Smith.
She is survived by her beloved husband Kenneth Routh of the home; son, Jeff Chandler and wife Donna of High Point; daughter, Bethany Jeanette Briles and husband Ray of Trinity; sister, Janie Deal of Greenville, NC; 2 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Thomasville Funeral Home. A 7:00 pm Memorial Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel between visitation.
