Shortly after graduating from high school Alberta married her high school sweetheart, Russell. Thus began the beginning of a magical partnership, brimming with love and shared adventures spanning 69 years.
Alberta’s greatest pride and joy were her children: Penny, Brad, Pam (Calvert). And as time went on and her children married, she embraced her daughter-in-law, Kathy, and her son-in-laws, Rob and the late Peter and Ben. Her heart expanded further with the arrival of her grandchildren: Tyler, Kyle and Matthew who brought her immeasurable happiness. She recently became a great-grandmother to baby Orla. Alberta fondly considered Vic and Wendy to be family members and called them her adopted children.
Alberta had an incredible zest for life. Never stopping, she volunteered many hours of her time to the community namely the Drewry Public School. Thanks to Alberta’s generosity, many of the neighborhood children learned to swim in the Neice’s pool as part of a school program. Alberta dedicated her time from 1976-2002 as Administrator and then as a Member of the Board of Directors for the Toronto Young Nations Hockey Club while still running their family landscaping business. Alberta’s home was a revolving door for many friends and hockey associates coming and going and she welcomed everyone. She became mom to any child or teen that was fortunate enough to walk through her door.
Alberta was the heart and soul of her family. She spent her life caring for and thinking of others before herself. She made friends everywhere she went. Alberta’s wry and witty sense of humor was loved by all and she kept that mischievous twinkle in her eyes up to the end. In Alberta’s famous words, “don’t go away mad, just go away”! Alberta’s memory will live on in all of our hearts.
The family would like to express deep thanks to Dr. Harriett Train & Julia all the people at LHIN, VHA, and LOFT. who provided services to Alberta and support to our family. Our wonderful PSW’s Janet, Eusy, Catherine, Celine and Janice. We would not have been able to keep her happy and comfortable in her own home with the man she loved, without all your support. For this we are grateful.
A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
A private family interment will take place at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes in Thornhill. Those wishing to make donations in Alberta’s memory can do so to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
