Mr. Macris, our beloved homeroom teacher, left a long-lasting legacy engraved in our hearts. He was the educator who wanted to prepare us for the future. Mr. Macris made a big difference in our lives by being a role model for us boys. He showed us his passion for moulding and inspiring young boys to become well-rounded men. Mr. Macris had high expectations of us while being funny and kind. We will miss him greatly, but he will always live in our hearts. My condolences to the family.

Alex- my dearest cousin. Still all trying to make sense of this. I see and hear how you were the rock of the Macris Family , you held everyone together.  We choose to remember  all the goodtimes , all the family gatherings (when we were young).Though as the years passed we weren't especially close in our everyday life. But we did have those simple calls-just checking in on the family , birthday wishes and name days. In fact the last we spoke was on your Name day. 
Alex I just wanted everyone to know that you played a quiet but pivotal role in my life. Because of you , Tim was accepted in my home that Friday night while you were visiting us - You made up a little lie on how Tim was your buddy from McGill.. lol !! it worked look Tim and I got married.  I remember our childhood "rivalry-Anything boys can do girls can do better- here I was 4 foot nothing trying to climb a fence" I remember -how you tried to get me in trouble by doing things in your house and running to your dad  "Baba look at what your little Yiotoula did, punish her".. but uncle Tom knew better. Good times we had and will never be forgotten. You will be deeply missed and forever in my heart. Till we meet again my dear cousin.

Alex was a great friend.  I was blessed to work with him for many years.  For a few of those years, when he was teaching grade 6, I was teaching grade 7.  Every single year without fail, it was so clear how the students moving from his grade 6 class into grade 7 missed him.  I would tell him about it, and he would apologize in fear that my feelings were hurt - he was such a humble and kind man.  But I made sure he always realized there was absolutely nothing to apologize for, but instead so much to celebrate.  There was real beauty in what I was witnessing.  His students were trying to navigate losing his daily influence.  It was truly beautiful to witness.  The loss of Alex is a heavy loss.  His students will miss him.  His friends will miss him.  

Linda, Brendan & Lauren...your husband and father meant so much to so many people.  And while he always had time to make those around him feel genuinely cared for, what always shone through was his love and devotion to each of you.  Thank you for sharing him with us.  Praying for you through this very, very difficult time.

Oh my dearest afaki….three days later and I am still at a loss for words that can come close to summarizing what you meant to me. My brother, my rock, my friend, my confidant. 

My favorite memories of you truly center around your insanely positive energy, the sound advice and steady support you always gave, our fun times travelling and of course your infectious laugh. When that laugh started, I couldn’t help but love you even more than I already did. Whether it was through watching you try to beat the kids at a race, playing with the dogs, stumbling through one of your funny stories, or even just watching you crack up over something random that set you off - that laugh….YOUR laugh filled the room and made everything brighter.
I hope I never forget the sound of it, because in so many ways, it captures the very best of the times we shared.
Someone shared the following quote with me "When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure”. I can promise you this….I will forever treasure every moment we shared together and you will forever and always live in my heart. I love you and miss you so deeply and can’t imagine life without you.

My name is Danial, and I had the privilege of being in Mr. Macris’ Grade 8 class of 2021–22. COVID was already a difficult time, and Mr. Macris made those days as bright as they could be. I will always remember his famous Macris potluck, the extra math questions he gave me after class to challenge myself--helping me discover my true passion for mathematics-- the many life lessons he taught me, and the time he met me at the park during the COVID shutdown. He shaped the person I am today, and I will always remember him as the teacher who made the greatest impact on me.

Mr. Macris was compassionate and kindhearted; he made everyone feel seen. I hope to treat others with the same love and respect he showed his students. He often shared stories about his wife and children, and it was clear how deeply he loved his family. I looked up to Mr. Macris and hope that, in my life, I can be even half the man he was.

At this time I offer my deepest condolences to the Macris family. His impact on the community is unfathomable, and it is without a doubt clear that Mr. Macris will never be forgotten. He has made a profound impact on many students including myself. I promise that I will live the rest of my life upholding the principles he has taught me: dignity and respect, treat everyone with love, always help those in need, never forget where you came from, and to never lose my love of learning.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Mr. Macris was my 6th grade teacher and honestly one of the teachers who made the biggest impact on my life. I always remember how he would see me as more than just a student, he always pushed me to be the best I could be and always had faith that I could do better. He told my parents he could see a lot of potential in me and that he wanted to see me as valedictorian, which unfortunately never happened, but I never stopped trying my best. He got me to do so many things I never would have thought of on my own, he got me to join the yearbook club not knowing much about it and it ended up being one of my passions throughout high school, he taught me how to be better with computers and even pushed me to do better in things related to technology because he knew I could do it. He asked me to help him with younger students learning how to use computers as well, and I always felt seen by him. I remember him reading my essay out to the class one day, which caught me by surprise because I never expected it to be that good, but again he always showed that he believed in me and what I was doing. Even now that I’m in my first year of university I never stopped remembering how great of a teacher he was, I was so happy to be in his class and I still have many fond memories of that year which I continue to look back on all the time. I remember the class always disliking having to read after lunch while the other class got to go out and play, but he always made up for it by taking us out to the park to play games and in the end helped us get the best eqao scores there is. Thank you so much for everything Mr. Macris, you were one of the greatest teachers ever.

I always knew I hit the big brother jackpot with Alex.  All my life, he provided endless love, support, guidance and true friendship.  Alex had the most gentle soul and led his life with quiet strength.  We shared so many of life’s most beautiful moments together and countless unforgettable holidays filled with joy. What I would give to have one more trip together to Florida or Greece where our hearts were light and our family was whole…

Alex was the rock of our family. He was the most incredible husband and father - his dedication to Linda, Brendan and Lauren was inspirational.  When our father passed away, he stepped forward without hesitation, becoming the steady hand and loving heart that held the Macris family all together. His care for our mother was nothing short of extraordinary.  The way he nurtured, comforted, and helped her heal showed the depth of his kindness and devotion.

I will miss Alex’s contagious laugh, his warm smile, and the way he could make everything feel lighter just by being there. There was truly no one I wanted to talk to more each day.  Alex was not only a true brother to Travis, but the most wonderful uncle to Isabella and Tommy. He was so proud, playful, and always present.

We pray for the strength to carry on without him, though life will never feel the same. Until we meet again, my dear Afaki.  There is no doubt you have made your way through the gates of heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember being nervous to move into the sixth grade as a kid (I just graduated high school this year) and I was happy and excited to be in Mr. Macris's class because he was known as the cool teacher, and that he was. I learned alot from his class specifically from him and not about whatever the grade 6 ciriculum is. He made our class vow to never smoke or to drugs and just tried to protect us as kids, I even still now remember his story about his friend Louis I believe it was and him trying smoking convincing us not to do it and until this day I have never smoked or vaped or tried any harmful drugs. It feels like yesterday he was telling us a story about how he was mowing the lawn and something about a I think killing a rabbit by accident, I don't really remember... Or even when his daughter would call during class instructional time and the entire class would start laughing as her question that interrupted our class would always be "What's for dinner". It would always make me happy to see Mr. Macris everywhere active and about, weather it be running or just shopping. Even a week ago I saw him at superstore in a rush for something, but that made me happy to see he was doing well, I was going to say hi but to be honest I'm not really sure he would have remember me, but I remember him and always will for the stuff he taught me. I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm sure he's in a better place now.

So many memories. Decades of family trips, parties, picnics, dinners, BBQs and poker nights. Our families all entwined in so many core memories. And in many of those Alex was always in the middle of planning, organizing or cooking. The many family trips to Florida. And yes, we did Magic Kingdom in 1 day; thank you Alex! The trips to Greece and helping each other with our itineraries. The family picnics... Niagara vs Rosedale Park, with Alex always leading the way to bring our big, fat, Greek family together. The dinners.  The poker parties. The parties... oh do we know how to party!!!
We will miss you in the coming years. But you will always be in our memories, in our hearts and with us in spirit. You may have left us, but your spirit will live within each and everyone of us, always.

Back in 6th grade having Mr. Macris as a teacher was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Rick Hansen Public School. Every lesson felt exciting, and he had a way of making even the hardest topics easy to understand (especially math). He always encouraged us to speak up and think for ourselves especially during the class debates he loved to host. He pushed us to do our best without ever making us feel like we weren’t good enough. What made him really special was how much he cared-he was funny, full of energy, and treated every student with respect. Now in ninth grade, I still see him as the most inspiring teacher I’ve ever had, and I’ll always be thankful for the time I spent in his class.

I remember when I was in grade 6, I would always look forward to Mr Macris’s class. After every lesson I felt like I actually learnt the information he taught us. I reminisce about the debates he would host in our class. He would always challenge us in a way that helped us get better without making it too hard. As a person he was funny, charismatic and genuinely cared about us as students. To this day that first half of a year with him was the most enjoyable, yet challenging year of my life. Now in 9th grade I regard Mr. Macris as not only the best teacher I’ve ever had but the most impactful educator I’ve ever had the fortune of learning under. I will forever remember and miss Alex Macris.

To say “Mr. Macris was the best teacher I ever had” is an understatement. He truly truly impacted my life for the better. He taught me back in grade 6 and I am now 22 still reflecting on the lessons he’s left with me. 
Mr. Macris believed in me more than any other teacher I had. More importantly, he taught me how to believe in myself. He taught me to always be myself and never back down from a challenge. 
Above academics, he taught me how to navigate life, one step at a time. I would not be who I am today if I hadn’t been in his class.
He was truly an amazing person and it was an honour to have been taught by him.
I honestly can’t count the amount of times he sat with me on HIS lunch break, just to be sure I understood the material. 
His lessons will always stick with me. Now I teach my very own preschool class, and Mr. Macris’ level of care and passion for teaching has always been my goal. No doubt of a lie, i often find myself asking “what would Mr. Macris do?”.

So saddened to learn of Alex’s unexpected passing.  He was a great friend, and we spent many good times, together.  It’s comforting to know that he achieved all of his hopes and dreams. You were a Warrior taking care of Mommy every single day to her appointments at Hospital . Fighting to save her life while at the same time fighting your own disease . I e - mailed you in early September for a quick recovery . You said I am optimistic all will be well . You thanked me . Till the end you fought . I kissed you for last time in hospital .
