Anne Guy, retired teacher with MSSB/TCDSB, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020 at age 87 after complications from a stroke. She is deeply mourned by her son, Eric (Michelle Conran Guy), her two grandsons, Joshua and Thomas, sisters-in-law Mary Terry (Ireland), Joyce and Barbara (nee Guy in the USA) and a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends in Ireland and the United States. Anne is predeceased by Rudy, her husband of 52 years; her parents Anne and Thomas; her siblings, Francis, Kathleen, Kevin, Madeline Della, Billy, and Patrick; sister-in-law Delphine (nee Guy) and brother-in-law, Keith Guy.
Anne Dympna (Terry) Guy was born in Ireland January 8, 1933. She was raised on a farm during WWII and excelled at her studies through high school. After high school, Anne secured employment in Ireland and after a short time working in England, she immigrated to the United States in 1956 via "The Queen Elizabeth" landing in New York on route to Chicago. Anne met her husband Rudy while working for the Chicago Urban League and they were married in 1962. Although Anne was a skilled civil servant, including proficient in shorthand, her true passion was education. She continued her studies at North Western University and upon immigration to Canada in 1968, she studied and graduated from The University of Toronto. Her love for and dedication to education was well known resulting in a dedicated desk plaque in the staffroom at St. Joseph's Morrow Park High School where she would spend countless hours preparing and marking her students' work. Although Anne taught history and English in high school, she was quite proficient at math even preparing report card averages using mental arithmetic when most teachers relied on calculators. Anne often spoke about her teaching years in the elementary system which she felt prepared her well for high school students and she was truly endeared to her grade four students at St. Gabriel's Catholic Elementary School. Anne retired from teaching in 1996 which allowed her time for volunteer work with The Sisters of St. Joseph and more time to spend with her constant four-legged companions Pepi and Dodger.
Anne will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by family, friends, former colleagues, and students. We are especially grateful to Anne's compassionate caregivers of the past several years, Amy and Anamer, whose dedication and kindness were appreciated by both Anne and her family.
