We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Christina Yuen Man Cheng. Christina died peacefully on October 8, 2009 at York Central Hospital surrounded by her husband, children and grandson. Born in Hong Kong on January 29, 1944, Christina lived a happy 65 years and was greatly loved by her husband Vincent, her children Michael (Mireille), Maria and Joseph (Andrew), grandson Alexander, and her nine siblings, among other family and friends. She was the selfless, generous and warm-hearted centre of our family. Christina trained as a registered nurse in Hong Kong. It was while working as a surgical nurse that she met a patient who would change her life: Dr. Vincent Cheng. Christina and Vincent were married in 1968 in Halifax and moved to Toronto the following year. Christina devoted her life to her family and tirelessly supported her children in all their endeavors. She sat patiently outside their many lessons, knitting blankets while they learned the piano and violin. The sizeable collection of afghans in the Cheng household is a colorful testament to all the time she spent nurturing her children. Christina and Vincent traveled from Asia to Europe to North America on their many trips, one of the few luxuries that she ever allowed herself. In her last years, Christina battled dementia, Parkinson's disease and cancer. Refusing to complain, she sought comfort in her Catholic faith and was cared for by her devoted husband Vincent. Her memory will forever permeate the rest of our lives. There will be a visitation on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 5pm to 9pm and a service to celebrate Christina's life on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. Both will be at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto. Flowers can be sent care of R.S. Kane and we also ask that family and friends consider making a donation to the York Central Hospital Foundation in her memory.
