Diane Keiko Balcarras “nee Kato” passed away in her 70th year on March 13 after a long illness. Greatly missed by her husband Tom of 47 years, daughter Kristen, son Sean (Nicole), granddaughters Taylor and Breanna. Diane is survived by her sisters Kathy, Laura (predeceased Andrew) and Vicki (Leon), nephews Mark and Bryan.
Diane spent her youth playing many sports including hockey, running, fishing with her father, and karate with her sister Laura. As a young adult, she would always make time to treat her younger sister Vicki to special treats and outings. She enjoyed travelling, especially to Hawaii with her sisters, parents and husband. Kathy and Diane were always seeking the perfect Hawaiian tan together. She could frequently be found playing the slots just like her dad. She cherished time with her family, getting her hands dirty in the garden and watching the Leafs and Blue Jays.
Diane worked for the Ministry of Health for many years before having her first child. She then devoted her life to providing a safe, happy and loving home for her kids. As a Mom she would cheer for her kids at sporting events, support them with all of their endeavours, provide treasured advice, and always be a shoulder to cry on. She will forever be a role model and hero to Sean and Kristen.
Diane was perpetually kind and generous to everyone, and never asked for anything in return. She was a strong, independent and courageous woman her whole life, and an inspiration to her family and friends.
A truly remarkable woman and a beautiful angel that will be loved and deeply missed every single day.
“So I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back
He'll say, Hallelujah, you're home”
As per her wishes there will not be a funeral. In lieu of flowers a donation to ALS Canada would be appreciated.
