July 8th, 1934 - April 9th, 2015
Beloved wife of the late Alan Douglas Elliott. Adored mother of Steven (Sarah), Richard (Lourdes) and Andrew (Marney). Much loved Gran of Brian, Ian, Lily, Olivia, Isaac and Alexandra. Dear sister of the late Richard Stone. Ever devoted to her immediate and extended family including the Stones, Watsons, Whites and Manktelows, and to her Labs.
Elizabeth (Liz) passed away peacefully after her courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Toronto, Elizabeth lived an extraordinary life full of music, charity, adventure and friendship.
Elizabeth met Alan, the love of her life, through Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, where they shared a passion for singing and music, which continued throughout her life. She graced many choirs with her strong, melodic voice and spent numerous years singing with Forest Grove United Church and the Toronto Classical Singers.
Elizabeth had a tremendous capacity to serve others through her tireless volunteer work with ROMwalks, the Town of York Historical Society/Toronto's First Post Office and the Canadian Antique Dealers Association, as well as helping Toronto's homeless.
She trained professionally and worked as a nurse for several years at SickKids. Elizabeth later studied art and architecture, earning a degree at the University of Toronto.
An always stylish lady, who was never far from her hats, Elizabeth had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and adventure. Her fascination with people, civilizations and architecture inspired her to travel the world, experiencing well over 100 countries. (We lost track a long time ago.) Forever on the go, she somehow magically found a time and a place for a swim.
Above all, Elizabeth cherished the people in her life, whether family or friends, life-long and more recent. Her graciousness and generosity touched the lives of countless individuals and groups of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
Elizabeth was deeply moved by the incredible outpouring of love and of support and her family is eternally grateful.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 14th from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles). A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, April 15th at 11 a.m. at Forest Grove United Church, 43 Forest Grove Drive, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, donations to SickKids Foundation or The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
