Born in Radom, Poland, the youngest of five children, Eva was adventurous, fiercely independent and loved by all who met her. She spent her early years in Radom, but moved to Warsaw to complete a Master’s degree in Economics from the prestigious Szkoła Główna Planowania i Statystyki (SGPiS). While in Warsaw, she met Hubert, a wonderful, kind and intelligent man. He left for Nigeria and she went to England, but they kept up correspondence, and eventually Hubert visited England and proposed. Together they moved to Africa to teach and were married. She spent almost a decade in Nigeria, where her two children were born. In 1984 they emigrated to Canada in search of a better life and settled in North York, Ontario. Eva held various teaching positions at Humber College, Centennial College and Seneca College where she never waivered from a challenge, teaching a variety of courses such as Economics, Math and Statistics. Teaching was her passion and she only retired from it last year. She also volunteered her time as a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish Credit Union, where she became the first female Chairman of the Board.
Eva’s greatest role was that of mother. When her husband, Hubert, passed in 1995, she continued to work hard to ensure her children finished school, launched their careers and found amazing life partners. Her most cherished role was that of Babcia. She was extremely active in the lives of her grandchildren and instilled in them the love of learning, playing tennis and swimming, while keeping them fed on home cooked Polish meals. Some of her favorite times were spent walking the beaches of Siesta Key with her grandchildren.
Eva joins her husband Hubert in heaven and is survived by her loving children Dominika (Brian) and Michal (Michelle), three adoring grandchildren (Isabella, Alexander and Adrian) and extended family. Eva was an extraordinary woman, devoted wife, dedicated educator and proud mother and Babcia. She will be missed terribly by her family and friends, but her legacy will remain.
