

Former Exec VP of Sales and Marketing for Costain Estates. He was the renowned originator of the Ontario Home Warranty Program that was adopted by the Province of Ontario, honoured in the Homebuilders Hall of Fame, the reason for the FRED WITZU AWARD given by PMA Realty for excellence in ability & performance as Fred was the first recipient; he is honoured in the Gold and Leather Bound British Archives of Men of Achievement along with Bill Clinton and others. He was well known in the industry and an inspiration to his colleagues. He was the only one who ever stood by his offer that any home purchased from Costain had a money back guarantee forever for the original purchase price of the house .He was part of a special group who propelled the British based company Costain Estates to the top of the building industry internationally. Fred passed away June 11,2012 in Sudbury in his daughters home where he ended his life in palliative care through lymphoma and colon cancer at the age of 86. He was an avid sailor going on annual Crystal World cruises to satisfy his love of travel and the sea. He had volunteered for WWII as a very young man as a Royal Canadian Naval Reserve Volunteer and served on the high seas. He was a brave strong positive person who excelled in his abilities to the very end during which time he was still very much larger than life! He will join his beautiful and desperately missed wife Stella (nee Saunders) who predeceased him in 1985 at the age of 56 unexpectedly dying of cancer. They were a wonderful couple and team and are finally reunited, survived by son Terry and daughter Sharon both doctors of dental surgery in Sudbury and adult grandchildren Terry and Veronica, with special mention of Terry's wife Marjorie (nee Duschesne) who helped him more than a daughter-in-law could be imagined. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and by all of his esteemed colleagues in the home building industry. He was a strong personality, full of life and exuberance, an excellent strict father, always there for his children throughout their lives going above and beyond the call of duty for anything they needed and a wonderful loving husband to his wife Stella who he had married as a young man. He cherished and honoured his wife Stella as the single most important person in his life until the day he died. He was extremely proud of and loved dearly both of his children Terry and Sharon. He will be resting at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home ,(6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles), Toronto. Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday 2-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday June 15, 2012 at 11 a.m.
