I never had the pleasure of meeting Gail, but I have had the pleasure of working with her daughter Angela, and she is a stunning reflection of her upbringing. Gail must be very proud of her daughter, and her grandchildren. God Bless Mrs. Spadafora and her entire family in your time of grief.

For most of the 90's, the Spadafora household was like a second home to me. I was always hanging out there after school and on weekends. Whenever I came to the front door, Gail would jokingly call out "Is that the kid from down the block again?". 

I remember Gail as extremely caring and hospitable. She would always invite me to stay for dinner or to sleep over for the night. She treated me like one of her own daughters. 

One of my favourite memories of Gail took place in 1995. Erica and Angela planned a surprise 15th birthday party for me in their basement. In order to trick me into coming over, Gail made up a story that the family had adopted some kittens and that I just had to come over to see them. Being allergic to cats I told Erica that I didn't want to come over. In a panic, Erica spilled the beans and told me that I had better get my butt over there as her whole family had helped put together a surprise party for me. When I got to the door, Gail answered it in a huff telling me that the kittens had torn up all of the furniture with their claws. I let her go on and on, and got a kick out of the drama she infused into this fictitious tale. I entered their basement where about 15 friends were waiting and called out "surprise!". It was a great day and I never will forget how special Gail and the Spadafora family made me feel.

Gail - you were one of a kind! Kimmy, Angela and Erica were lucky to have had you for a mother. You will be missed dearly.

MEMORIES: GAIL,I AM REMEMBERING THE FIRST TIME I MET YOU AND LYNDA IN THE SUMMER OF 1958 AND HOW WE WOULD GO OUT ON DOUBLE DATES. ONE OF MY FONDEST MEMORIES IS A TRIP WE TOOK TO WASAGA BEACH WHERE I ALMOST KILLED MYSELF WATER SKIING FOR THE FIRST TIME I DIDN'T LET GO OF THE TOW ROPE IN TIME AND SHOT OUT OF THE WATER LIKE A ROCKET, ROLLED END OVER END AND FINISHED UP COVERED IN WET SAND EVERYWHERE - VERY PAINFUL- BUT THERE YOU WERE THE TWO OF YOU KILLING YOUR SELF LAUGHING AND AT THE SAME TIME ASKING ME IF I WAS OKAY. I FORGAVE YOU BOTH AS I KNEW THE TWO OF YOU HAD A PERVERSE SENSE OF HUMOR. WE ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO OUR ANNUAL TRIP TO PORT PERRY FOR LUNCH AT THE CASINO. IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE BOTH ENJOYED, ESPECIALLY THEIR GREAT BREAD PUDDING - IT WAS OUR SPECIAL DAY AND THE BREAD PUDDING WAS OUR SPECIAL TREAT. YOU NEVER WANTED TO GAMBLE, BUT YOU WOULD SAY - PLAY AS LONG AS YOU WANT - I'LL JUST SIT HERE AND WATCH - ALWAYS THOUGHTFUL OF OTHER PEOPLE. DURING THE NEXT 53 YEARS OF LIFE'S TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS, WE ALWAYS REMAINED GOOD FRIENDS AND WHEN NEEDED CONSOLED EACH OTHER OR REJOICED TOGETHER. I REMEMBER SLEEP OVERS AT YOUR LITTLE HOUSE ON FLORENCE AND AT MY HOME ON BOGERT. WE WOULD GIGGLE AT NOTHING IN PARTICULAR FOR HOURS AND WHEN MY MOM BANGED HER BROOM ON THE CEILING OF THE KITCHEN TO TELL US TO SETTLE DOWN, WE WOULD LAUGH EVEN HARDER. I REMEMBER YOUR DAD PLAYING COUNTRY MUSIC ON THE RADIO AND YOUR MOM COOKING SUNDAY DINNER. I REMEMBER SKATING ON THE RINK AT CAMERON SCHOOL UNTIL IT WAS DARK AND RELUCTANTLY WE HAD TO HEAD HOME. I REMEMBER OUR LONG WALKS TO THE COFFEE CUP RESTAURANT TO SEE YOUR MOM AND HAVE A COKE. I REMEMBER EVERY SATURDAY GOING TO THE WILLOW SHOW AND EITHER MY DAD OR YOUR DAD WOULD PICK US UP. I REMEMBER THE DAY WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE AT BROWNIES AND WE SKIPPED AND WERE HAVING A COKE IN PATTY'S RESTAURANT AT THE END OF BOGERT AND YOUR DAD CAME IN TO BUY CIGARETTES AND WE HAD TO DUCK UNDER THE BOOTH UNTIL HE LEFT ALL THE TIME TRYING NOT TO LAUGH AND GIVE OURSELVES AWAY. I REMEMBER OUF TEEN YEARS WHEN WE MET OUR FIRST BOY FRIENDS - EDDIE & VIC - AND WE DOUBLE DATED. I REMEMBER SHARING CLOTHES AND COLORING OUR HAIR AND TAKING GLAMOUR PHOTOS. I REMEMBER GOING DOWNTOWN TO EATONS AND TRYING ON HATS FOR A LAUGH UNTIL THE SALES CLERKS TOLD US TO LEAVE. I REMEMBER OUR WEDDINGS AND THE BIRTHS OF YOUR THREE WONDERFUL DAUGHTERS. the world has lost one of its angels.....my deepest sympathy to you and your family

I was saddened to read of Gail's death.  I was a friend of Gail's 55 years ago.  The last time we were together, the twins were about 2 years old.  Regretfully, we did not keep in touch, but I did think of her often. My daughter Laurie (deceased 1974) and I were in Gail's first wedding. Gail's beautiful picture looks the same as she did so many years ago. Cherish her memories.

I remember this holiday like it was yesterday, it was one of the best. Moms out front chilling in the sun having a cocktail Having to put socks on the dogs. No hot water, having baths in the washtubs. Having steak for breakfast, lunch, dinner. These memories will be close to my heart like you will be always. Love you lots. Toni

Mom, I am having such a hard time trying to figure out what to say. I am so angry, angry that I will never see you again, never hear your voice...the little voicemail messages, "Hi Kim, it's Mom, give me a call sweetie, I love you". I am so angry that MY mother was taken from me way to soon. I am so angry, I am so angry and I need my Mom to hug me and make it all better. I know if you saw me hurting like this, you'd have something to say to make me feel better but, you're not here and I feel lost. I'm angry that you were taken from us. I am angry because instead of my last words being I love you, they were "I'll be right back, I just have to go to the bathroom. I am angry that that is the last time I saw you alive. I am so angry...but, I promise you Mom, I will let the anger go in a little while because I know you only want me to be happy but, I am entitled to a little anger right now. It is no secret to those around us that you and I weren't just mother and daughter, we were friends. We might not have been perfect but, we were perfect for each other. Mom, to you, I make this promise...Erica, Angela and I will make sure Dad is looked after. I promise to be a mother figure to Erica and Angela. I promise that Marley will always know how much her Nana loved her. I promise that your beloved animals will be well looked after. I promise to continue to read The Enquirer, Star, US and Hello magazines (lol). Mom, please know that I was very lucky to have had YOU as my mother for all these years. As Robert Munch said in the last pages of his book, I'll love you forever...as long as I'm living my Mommy you'll be. I love you this much Mom and more.

Mom, words cannot express how my heart fell and shattered when you left us yesterday. I feel like you left us too soon. I miss you with all my heart and soul and I want you to know that you really were the greatest mother everyone in this world would have been lucky to have...and Angela, Kim and I were the lucky one's who got you. And mom I make you my promise that I will make sure Marley knows you and how much of an amazing woman you were and how much you love her. Words cannot begin to express the utter devastation I am feeling with the sudden passing of my mother. I am experiencing a vast array of emotions all at the same time. I am sad that she was taken from us too soon. I am mad that she left at a such a vulnerable time, when our family is already in such pain. I am upset that my father now has to live without the love of his life; that my sisters and I have to live without our rock. I feel cheated that my daughter will not know first hand what an amazing, loving and at times, dramatic, woman my mother was. But I will be sure to share with her, all of the wonderful memories of my mom that I hold near and dear to my heart. And while my heart is now shattered, I know that with time, I will become strong and able to pick up the pieces, just as my "Chatty" would want. I love you mommy always and forever. Angela xoxo
