Ilonka Helen Gyorgy (Kirec) (Nee:Varga)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Ilonka in hospital in Richmond Hill on May 17, 2023 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Adored mother of Helen (Don), Leslie (Erika), Karl (MariaElisa), and John (Katalin). Cherished grandmother “Mama/Mom” to Andrew (Melissa), Michael (Mersedeh), Mathew (Inna), Ashley (Brad), Jessica (Makenzie), Michaela, Oliver, Michael, Lukacs and Daniel. Dear sister to Gizela, Violet and Stevan. Predeceased by her husband Dezso, son Ludvik (Helen), grandchildren Ludvik, Christopher, Suzy, Nancy, sisters Marija and Zlata, and parents Marija and Ivan Varga.

Ilonka was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and soon-to-be great-grandmother (x 2), and she will be remembered by all who knew her for her warmth, generosity and caring nature. She had an unfailingly kind spirit, and the requisite sense of humour that comes from raising 5 children, 4 of whom were boys.

Family was her pride & joy. And family always included friends. Ilonka was happiest surrounded by family and friends as they enjoyed her wonderful meals. When not traveling the world with her beloved Dezso, she could be found tending to her beautiful garden, seeing what is new with her Facebook friends or helping someone, anyone and everyone.

Visitation is on Sunday May 28, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C. Church, 432 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
