James was born in 1975 in Montreal, Quebec, moving to Regina, Saskatchewan during his elementary school years. He obtained an Industrial Systems Engineering degree from the University of Regina. During his professional career he participated in many engineering and aerospace projects including the refurbishing of Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral, Florida used by NASA, a satellite launcher study for the Canadian Space Agency and biotechnology automation systems. Most recently he was working in the development of stratospheric balloon systems for the launch of scientific instrument packages and was an active and long-time participant in volunteer groups developing rocket engines.
A true renaissance man, James participated in numerous projects throughout many fields beyond simply engineering. His many interests stretched from science fiction, space science and naval history, to hot air ballooning and classic station wagons.
James is survived by his mother Patricia Ann Porcher, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins both in Ontario and Saskatchewan, and his many friends and colleagues in the engineering, space and hot air ballooning communities throughout Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
