My brother John lived in Canada for more than fifty years, and there will be many tributes to him from his friends and colleagues who have known and worked with him. As his brother, I want to thank him for his early years here in England. For almost thirty of them, he lived with us, his parents and his sister Pat, and shared our lives together. Through all of those years, before and after the war, we loved and supported each other and the memory of them will remain and sustain us in the sadness of his death. His achievements in his work are a source of pride to us, but in his many telephone calls to us over the years, he talked most of all about his pride in and his love for Jean, Amanda, and Jenny. They were and always will be the most important things in his life. I thank them for all that they did for him, especially in these last years, and he will always remain in their hearts as they will in mine. May he rest now in peace, and may he at last be reunited with Dad, Mum, and Pat. Jim

Dear Aunt Jean, Amanda and Jennifer, We do not know how many times we should write “sorry”: sorry for not being in touch with you, sorry for not coming to visit you and uncle John and sorry for not being with you in this sad time. It was our dream to visit you again, this time with our family, an Italian invasion. We will never forget the time spend with you and uncle John, as well as when uncle John was able to reach Rome (nevertheless the weather) to stay with us soon after our mother died. It was so important for us to be with uncle John and Jim at that time. We spent unforgettable time with them, we were all around a table listening uncle John and Jim told stories about “mamma” and their childhood, we laughed heartly. As you probably know, some of us were in Preston to partecipate in Rachel’s marriage. It would have been perfect if also your family had been there. Stefano still have something from his vacation (1975), for example, uncle John’s thesis. Also, a Toronto University’ s mug is always in the kitchen to remember when he visited the University with uncle John. He was so proud to go around with him. We will request to celebrate a mess for uncle John and “mamma” hoping that somewhere they can travel togheter for a while. With love all the Italian relatives and big hug. Giacomo Stefano and MaeMae

I remember our shared experiences over the years from 1941 to 1944 through the air raids and at St Anselms College,Birkenhead when education was beaten into us. Our "formative" growing up years - cycling up to the Lake District and down to Lands End staying overnight in primitive Youth Hostels - eating at the British Restaurants (posh name for a basic but very welcome hot meal - cost 10p) our foreign holiday driving to Austria with pals (very adventurous) with you being very seasick on the Dover /Calais boat trip. our playing Rugby Football for our old school your black and white Staffordshire bull terrier of which you were so fond our evenings in the local pub The Claughton (thrown out at 10pm in those days) our many happy hours together sharing the same sense of humour your visits "home" to Birkenhead from Canada and many more Rest in Peace Don Roberts

I was remembering over the weekend how each time I went to the Lowery house as a teen, Mr. Lowery would see me and ALWAYS say "there's that Karen again" and maybe mumble something about us being up to no good. But I believe he did it with a twinkle in his eye. I will remember that always. My love to you all at this time. Hard days will be followed by light.
