After bravely facing three and a half years of a neurological illness, Laura passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday November 9th, 2009 at the age of 56. She was the beloved wife, friend, and partner of Tom, loving and devoted mother of Ena, Adrian, Nicholas, Celia, Trevor, Peter, and Margot, little sister of Peter and Carla, and big sister to Elsa. Laura will be deeply missed by her cousins, nieces and nephews, and her family near and far. Laura will never be forgotten by her dear friends, neighbors, colleagues and the staff of carefree lodge, whose unflagging love and support carried her through her illness. She will be remembered for her warmth and love, compassion, humility, guidance and sense of humor. Her belief in the importance of friendship, community and the health of body and mind were attested to by her commitment to family, friends, church, the moms and tots group she helped to found, and the thirty years spent as a mental health nurse and clinical instructor. She always showed care, respect, and empathy in her personal and professional life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation, where a fund has been set up in Laura's name-information may be found at www.sunnybrookfoundation.ca These donations will go toward research being conducted at Sunnybrook hospital into Laura's illness, in the hope of helping other families experiencing the same struggle. Friends may call on Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). We are so very grateful for the love and comfort of all our friends, neighbors and family, to make Laura's life so full and beautiful, especially over the last few years.
