May 27, 1928 – July 15, 2018
On Sunday July 15, Lilyan passed away peacefully in Southlake Regional Hospital with her son David by her side. She will be greatly missed for her strong sense of family, her unbounded sense of humour, and her legendary “Lilyisms”.
Lilyan was born to Charlie and Maud ( Yorke ) Newton in Massachusetts. Having lost her mother as an infant, Lilyan and her family returned to Economy Nova Scotia where she was raised by her extended family along with her two sisters, Audrey (1921-2014) and Kathleen (1927-1992).
After finishing school, Lilyan moved to Ontario where she would meet and marry her true love, Albert Gadsby. Married in October 1953, Lilyan and Albert enjoyed a wonderful life together. Lilyan’s love for Nova Scotia was contagious and in 1987 Albert built a beautiful summer home in Lower Economy, where the two of them would spend many summers watching the Fundy tide come and go, along the shores of Economy Mountain.
Lilyan is survived by her three sons, David (Suzanne), Craig (Laura) and Glenn (Anne) ; grandchildren, Andrew, Spencer, Peyton, Paige and Blake ; nephew Gregory and nieces Lyn (Anne), and Colleen (who occupied a special place in Lilyan’s heart); as well as several cousins.
Visitation will be held at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St, Toronto on Tuesday July 24, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial to follow at 11:00 a.m. A reception and interment will take place afterward.
