

Peacefully at age 77, on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at home, having been anointed, and surrounded by loved ones. Lourdes Heng is the daughter of the late Lau Bueh Ching and Heng Siew Hwa of Sandakan, Sabah (British North Borneo), Malaysia, mother of John, and mother-in-law of William Sullivan. She is predeceased by her husband James of Singapore, beloved daughter Connie, and 3 brothers. She is much loved by her surviving 8 siblings, Harry Lau (Virginia) of Hawaii, Christine Hiew (Ken) of Australia, Lau Ngan Chew (Seng Wie) of Singapore, Emily (Edward) Lo of Sandakan, Lau Ngan Siew and his wife of Sandakan, Lau Ngan Sia of Australia, Daniel (Tina) of Sandakan, and Ivy (Henry) of England, as well as her extended family, Francesca (Sylvester) of England and Lourdes' 5 other half-siblings, the Sullivan-Matthews clan, the Giraudy-Ellers, Castagnas, Szes, and Lupos. Lourdes was an avid canoeist and loved cooking, travelling, and painting with watercolours. She will be remembered as an energetic, honest, generous, and caring person by her nieces and nephews and their families, her friends, the staff and fellow parishioners at St. Luke's, Thornhill, former colleagues at Woodgundy-CIBC, her care providers, neighbours and the people whose businesses she supported, many of whom came to regard her as their confidante. Lourdes and her family are forever grateful for the loving care of Dr. Christine Brezden-Masley and the staff of the Medical Day Care at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Dr. Darren Larsen, CCAC Central York Region, Natalya, Maria, Fr. Bill Burns, Fr. Bob O'Brien, Fr. Frank Portelli, and the community that kept company with her during her illness. The visitation will be held at R. S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles Ave.) in Toronto, on Friday, March 2, from 6-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 39 Green Lane (north-east of Bayview Avenue and John Street) in Thornhill on Saturday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Parish Refugee Resettlement Fund or a charity of your choice.
