

Peacefully in her sleep with her daughter by her side, on Thursday, April 27th, 2017, in her 90th year. Predeceased in 2007 by Jack, her beloved husband of over 53 years. Loving and devoted mother/mother-in-law to Douglas (Judie), Russell (Rebecca Poon) and Tracy (David Hynes). Cherished and adoring grandmother to Kristy, Kim, Sadie and Franny, and deeply missed by many cherished friends. Dear sister to the late Shirley Sampson, Keith Simpson, and Graham Simpson, all of New Zealand. Lovingly remembered by niece Trudy, nephews Peter, David, Michael, and numerous other extended family.
A primary schoolteacher, Lyla was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and met the love of her life, Jack, en route to traveling the world with her sister Shirley. They were wed in England in September 1953 and made their way to Canada. An active member of Gwendolyn Park Tennis Club and North York Gators Swim Club, Lyla was also a talented gardener, knitter and baker. She and Jack loved to travel the world and enjoyed many adventures from continent-wide road trips and camping expeditions, to costume parties, cottage weekends and lovely luncheons with their wonderful friends. Her kindness and compassion is remembered by all.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Lyla's life will be held at R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017 at 11 o'clock. Interment, York Cemetery.
