Died peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Lucille for 61 years. Loving father of Leslie, Gary, Doug and the late Linda Hillier. Proud Papa of Wendy and Amy, grandpa to Patrick and David, Kaitlin and Geoffrey and Alexander. Greatgrandpa to Elliot, William and Cameron. Brother of Donald and the late Thelma Van Doornick. Lyman will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Good times shared will be remembered by Barry and Lorraine and many other good friends. Heartfelt thanks to the very caring staff of LSSE section and to Seamus. Lyman served overseas as a Flying Officer taking part in the Victory Parade before returning to Canada. He joined TransCanada Airlines (now Air Canada) in 1948, where he was in charge of the project to develop the airline's first computerized reservation system (RESERVEC). His career has been in the analysis of many electronic systems. He was a ham radio operator and his love of airplane building took him from cub scout days to his last project, a 12 ft wingspan radio-controlled Piper Cub. A private Celebration of his life will be held. Donations to the Sunnybrook Veterans Comfort Fund would be appreciated.
