

With heavy hearts, the family of Major Christopher Henry Sullivan announces his passing in Fredericton, NB. Cherished son of Paul Sullivan and Nora (Lobraico) Sullivan. Dear brother of Michael-Paul Sullivan and wife Heather (Dunsmuir) Sullivan. Coolest uncle of Owen and Patrick Sullivan. Mourned by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Reunited with his late grandparents Henry and Ella Sullivan and Michael and Olivia Lobraico. Chris was raised in Thornhill, Ontario where he attended St. Anthony School, played community soccer and hockey, was a keen member of 7th Thornhill Scouts and the St. Luke’s faith community. Graduate of St. Michael’s College School (Toronto), Carleton University (Ottawa) Hons.BA and Royal Roads University (Victoria) MA. Chris had a sense of adventure from a young age. A sharp wit and a wicked sense of humour. Chris was a “foodie”, loving to cook and dine out. He was passionate about the outdoors and travel…summers at Cub and Scout camps, family gatherings at his grandparents’ country home, and two summers of study/travel abroad (Ireland & London/Paris). He even ventured into the world of beekeeping. Anyone who knew him was struck by his broad interests, his knowledge of Geopolitics and his ability to analyse situations and reach solutions in everyday life and far beyond.
Chris joined the Toronto Scottish Regiment as a Reservist in 2007 and from this time forward he carved a life of involvement with numerous military assignments/training courses across Canada and abroad, both within the Canadian Armed Forces and for the Government of Canada. Chris worked at CFB Borden serving with the 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, travelled extensively in remote communities in Northern Ontario, responsible for the Junior Canadian Ranger program for youth. Moved to Kingston to work at the Canadian Army Doctrine Training Centre. While in Kingston, transferred to the Brockville Rifles and The Princess of Wales Own Regiment. He completed numerous training courses specializing in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defence (CBRN), including the Advanced CBRN Defence Officer Course. Represented the Government of Canada/Department of National Defense, as a subject matter expert (SME), at NATO CBRN Doctrine and Terminology working groups, consisting of members from over 30 countries. At this point in his career and while maintaining his regimental duties, Chris was appointed as a full-time member to the Parole Board of Canada (Ontario/Nunavut) where he served for four years. Responsible for conducting hearings for high profile federal offenders in the presence of victims, members of the media and politicians ensuring that the rights of both offenders and victims were respected. Transferred next to CFB Gagetown NB and worked at the Royal Canadian Artillery School in the Light Urban Search and Rescue Cell providing training to this unit. He later worked for the Canadian Army Chief of Programme and 3 Canadian Division Headquarters. He was promoted to Lieutenant, Captain, and then Major. Chris was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration.
Funeral mass on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 10 am, St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 39 Green Lane, Thornhill, ON L3T 6K5. Reception immediately following mass in the church hall. Christopher will be buried in a private service at Mount Hope Cemetery in the Spring. On-line condolences through the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home Thornhill website.
