Once again, Malcolm's passing reminds us of the brevity of life. To use a quote by therapist Daphne Rose Kingham: "Malcolm's passing will bestow his light on you from wherever he is. His attributes, genius and talents, that were his, will come to inhabit you in a strange, mysterious way; his absence will fill you with his presence. This is Malcolm's leagcy. In the midst of your loss, this is his gift. Wait for it; look for it. Expect it and surely you will receive it." At this moment Donna, Matthew and Alena, these words, although intended to feed your downhearted spirits and generate love, might not mean much to you. It is our hope that as time passes this sentiment, like all others expressed, will take on greater prominence. Our love, Larry and Michael

I worked with Malcolm at Economical and was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Malcolm�s smile and his demeanour will be missed. I was always pleased to learn that I would again be working with Malcolm on another contract. I will remember his straightforward and insightful advice shared over weekday lunches. During this difficult time, I hope you will draw upon your own strength and the strength of those who hold you in their thoughts. You have my deepest sympathy. How can it be? Not Malcolm Marshall. A man who kept himself so fit. A man who ate so carefully. Who loved his wife Donna to the ends of the earth. Who would move the earth for his son Matthew and his daughter Alena, the apples of his eye. Who cared so deeply for his mother in England, phoning her almost every day and visiting her as much as was humanly possible. Who had so many friends who loved and respected him. Who had so much to live for. He has now left his suffering behind. It is we who are left who grieve the loss of this fine man I was proud to call a friend. Ave atque vale. What a shock it is to receive news of Malcolm's passing! Dear Donna, our lives crossed so many years ago and I hold you dearly in my heart. It gave me so much joy, on later visits, to meet your lovely husband Malcolm and Matthew and Alena. May you all find strength enough to bear this painful parting. Oscar and I send our love and condolences to you Donna and your children and the extended Nicoloff family. (Marsha taught and travelled with Donna in the late 1960s.)

I arrived back from a trip to Berlin last night to read Donna's email. It does not seem possible. This time last year around this time, Malcolm and Donna had just finished visiting us in The Hague. He made a video of the very special house and grounds where Bjorn and I lived. He took the best pictures of our wedding. And, one of my favourite photographs is of an open door, a wedding gift from him. He was always observing, capturing a moment. How can these gifts be left and not the man who gave them? It is terrible.

I worked with Malcom at the Economical Insurance Group for approximately 2 years. He was a key contributor in the establishment of a new practice at our organization and a brilliant contract negotiator. It was quite something to see him in action. While I have many fond memories of the extraordinary work he did and his many accomplishments, I shall especially remember him for his brilliant wit and intelligence, devotion to his family and a colleague who as a pleasure to work to with. My condolences to his family. As Malcolm used to say, "What you gain on the roundabout you loose on the swings". Good bye Malcolm, you will be missed.

I worked with Malcolm at The Economical Insurance Group. I was always amazed by his extensive knowledge on contract initiation and contract negotiation. However, what touched me most was his devotion to his family. He was really proud of his kids' accomplishments and he kept close communication with his mother. I will cherish the memory with me.
