From your Daughters

Since March 2007, the day Dad left us,
Your life was just not the same.

Your life changed drastically.
One big two bedroom apartment, and you were all alone in it. 

We, Your daughters never close enough for your liking.

You had your Thyroid out and things changed again,  swallowing was
always a problem,  you never ate the same again. 

Then you got struck down by the damn Meniere’s disease which caused
your horrible vertigo attacks. They landed you in the hospital
more times than we can count, and  now made you fear going out alone. 

The anxiety you suffered from, and got from your mother, 
turned your life around for the worse.  
You worried to much about things you had no control over.   You always told us
"I am your mother, and I will never stop worrying about my children"  

You made so many new friends over these last few years, many that took care of you 
just like you were family.   We are forever grateful to them.  

You've been so lonely since Dad left, which you reminded us of every day.    

We thought about you everyday, and did as much as we were capable of,
to help you through these last few years.  
We know it was never enough, and we are sorry for that.   
Outside of one of us moving in with you, nothing would have
solved your loneliness.


That pendant around your neck that called 911 when you fell,   was a godsend.   
We spoke to you on the phone and you assured us you were ok. 
You were pretty banged up and bruised from falling face first into your walker.  
But you didn't break a thing, except your glasses and a tooth.   
You Always were a tough old broad.

You were bound and deterimined to get home after a week of being in that hospital,
which made us happy that you were feeling better , but also made us worry too, 
 "How would you cope in the apartment now, by yourself"
I guess we got the worrying about the "what ifs"  from You"  

We talked to you that next morning, thinking you were coming home, but you said you had a 
cough now, and the doctor wanted to keep you there. 
The cough was the start of a flu bug, but you just were not strong enough to beat that. 
The COPD had already compromised your breathing and this bug was just to much for you 
to fight.   
We spent all night Wednesday with you in the hospital and you suffered all night long.
Trying to breath through the rattle in your chest,  you banged on the bed in frustration, 
and fought it with all you had, but never did you shed a tear.  
 Like I said, tough old broad. 
The doctor said, you would not be the same,  and would never likely beat this.   
It would be selfish of us to make you suffer through this any longer.   
I know you expressed many times before this, in so many words, that you just wanted 
to be with Dad again,  so now your wish has come true. 

You can both live happily ever after again,  and don't you dare give us any excuses
to why you both can't be front row for the next Daytona 500.  

You will be forever in our hearts and one day we will meet again. 

My deepest sympathy to all of the Dyke family.  Please forgive my inability to attend the service as I only found out this afternoon.  I will always remember Marilyn as a friend whom I lovingly called "Trouble".  As one of my original pool babes, she will be greatly missed.  I met Marilyn at our community pool and became fast friends.  I refer to all of the ladies at the pool as my pool babes and always got a chuckle out of it.  She will be greatly missed in our little community.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was always so kind to Marnie and I when we were young and  I have such fond memories of growing up at Park Willow and all the times you both babysat Marnie and I when we were young.

My deepest condolences.  Your mom and I had many happy years working together.  She will be deeply missed.

Laura- thank you so much for letting me know. We won't be able to attend as we do not get back into the country until April. Although Marilyn and I didn't get together often, when we did, the memories flowed. I don't know if you know the story of our family? When I was born my mom stayed in the hospital for almost a year and during this time Aunt Kay and Uncle Roy took me in. Marilyn was a teenager and had the great Joy (?) of helping to look after me. She always told me stories about my dirty diapers! Through the years we kept in touch through Christmas dinners with grandma and our fathers were close brothers. As the years passed we went our separate ways but would meet at funerals and weddings. Then we had the reunion a few years ago at your place and caught up.
I will miss Marilyn. There is only 2 of our generation left now so you and Karen will become the "elders". 
Please let me know when the interment will take place.
Always remember the happy times.

I worked with Marilyn for a number of years and always found her a lovely pleasant lady.  I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Karen, may your grieving soon change to wonderful joyous memories you shared with your mom.
