Hello Kathy. This is definitely a voice from your long-distant past, but I saw your mother's obituary in the Star and had to write to tell you how sorry I am for the grief you must feel right now. My dad died 15 years ago and I miss him every day, but I still feel in some way that he is close to me. My mother, on the other hand, is very close to me. We live together. She has suffered a few strokes, but is remarkably well considering -- our mothers' generation of women was made very tough, I think -- and I enjoy caring for her. My closeness to my mother made me feel greater sympathy for you in your loss, I suspect. Doesn't matter how old they are, they are still the only mothers we get. So, be kind to yourself, Kathy, and know that even people from the darkest reaches of your history are thinking fondly of you. Sarah

I was very sorry to read about your Mother's passing. I remember her from Clinton Street way back when. She would do alterations for a teacher at Palmerston. We all played together and had lots of fun on the street. My Mother is living with us now and she is the same age as your Mother was. We lost Elliot a few years ago and it is very sad for us. I have four grandchildren who make us very happy. I remember your Mother with very fond memories. Kishi has been a influence in my life since I was 12. For 33 years we have been bundled up as kids (and bundled up our own kids) to meet at New Years, bring cookies and eat Sushi (before it was mainstream and fashionable), view the newest movies or video-games, and meet my favorite childhood crush (Steve, he was only 10 years older than I)and his now grown family. I was more at home here at her gatherings than at my own. Every year she gave me a new Japanese word or phrase to memorize so I would be wise and worldly. (I still remember a few.) Now the sweetest woman in the world has said Goodbye. Arigato Kishi I will always remember your specialness - every New Year and every time I take my kids for sushi (which is often.) I LOVE YOU. Thank you for including me in your life.

Colleen, I am very saddened with the news of the loss of your mother. I know that you will miss her greatly. My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
