It was a pleasure to work with Michelle at the Globe and Mail for 8 years. What I will always remember about Michelle is her passion for life. She was not someone who was passive about life, she went out there and lived!! She was also very, very funny. I was shocked when I heard she had died. Life can be unfair and yet so beautiful. In June 1990 Michelle and her brother Jim made a big trip to Germany to attend their brothers wedding ceremony on June, 9th. They were having great fun with all the Bavarian people, even though not many of them could talk to them because of the language "barrier".
 But laughing, eating and dancing are a form of international communication. Later on, Michelle helped to serve sparkling wine and juice and enjoyed it, too.
At midnight, the band interrupted playing the dance music, with a fanfare, and started to play "Happy birthday" for Michelle - and 80 people sang for her. A candle cake was brought in and she failed to blow them out, because she was crying.... with so much happiness. 
Everybody in the room loved her. She was so touching.
She turned 26 years old at that moment.

I was sad to hear from my friend Pat Tabone who worked at The Globe and Mail a few months ago that Michelle Leger had cancer. I was a past employee at The Globe and Mail as well and I worked with Michelle when she came to work as a customer service rep the first time. She left The Globe and Mail and worked elsewhere but then returned back to The Globe and Mail and went into sales in advertising. She always had a smile for everyone, always went around happy. I went to see a play with her one time after work. She drove me a few times to work when I lived in Scarborough and her and Paul lived in Pickering/Ajax area. She has two beautiful children that she talked about so much and adored. I now live in Calgary, AB and found out that Michelle had passed away Aug. 22 at home. I will never forget her face or smile. Letter of Condolence Dear Paul, Heather and Daniel It was with deep sadness and yet a touch of relief that I learned of the passing of your wife, your mother, my sister - Michelle. When my wife learned that Michelle was at home with friends and loved ones in her final moments, she said “I’m proud of your family”. Thank you Paul, that you possessed the courage to fulfill Michelle’s last wishes. We are all very grateful. My Uncles, Aunts, brothers and I all know first-hand, how devastating the early death of a loved one can be. Heather and Daniel, I will by no means try to console you with the fact that your mother lived 8 years longer than her mother. Michelle’s passing is simply too early. She was surrounded by Angles from birth onwards, protecting her from near and far. Thus, I cannot search for a target of blame, nor a reason for understanding. God protect the three of you. Lieber Paul, liebe Heather, lieber Daniel, liebe Brüder mit Familien, Alle meine Gedanken sind sehr oft bei euch jetzt und in den letzten Tagen und Wochen. Es war ungefähr eine Woche vor ihrem Geburtstag, als ich das letzte Mal mit Michelle gesprochen habe und es war ein sehr intimes, ehrliches und langes Gespräch. Noch nie ist mir ein Telefonat so schwer gefallen wie dieses…. die Hilflosigkeit, mit der ich ihre Hilflosigkeit anhören musste, war der einzige Trost, den ich ihr anbieten konnte. Sie war und ist jede Nacht in meine Gebete eingeschlossen. Meine Überzeugung, dass sie jetzt in einer besseren Welt ist, hilft mir, den Verlust Ihres Sterbens zu tragen. Obwohl ich nicht viel Kontakt in den ganzen Jahren mit ihr hatte, hinterlässt sie einen tiefen Eindruck in meinem Gedächtnis. In den letzten 2 Tagen sind meine Gedanken oft bei Michelle und unseren Begegnungen gewesen. Dabei ist mir eines besonders aufgefallen: Ich habe sie nie schlecht über jemand anders reden hören, egal wie er oder sie sich auch verhalten haben. Sie hat immer Erklärungen und Entschuldigungen gefunden. Das nehme ich mir zum Beispiel. Als ich ein paar Tage in den bayrischen Bergen Urlaub gemacht habe vor 2 Wochen, habe ich sie in Gedanken immer mitgenommen, um ihr all die Schönheit auf diesem Fleck der Erde zu zeigen. Jetzt ist sie in einer anderen Welt…. Und ich hoffe, sie gefällt ihr sehr. Danke für Euer Dasein in ihren letzten Stunden und dem Hinüberhelfen in die friedliche Welt, in der sie jetzt ist. Letter of Condolence Dear Paul, Heather and Daniel, dear brothers and family All my thoughts are with you right now... very often... over the last days and weeks. The last time I spoke to Michelle, was about one week before her birthday and we had a real intimate long talk. It was the most difficult telephone call I ever had. I wanted to comfort her and did so by listening. She was and is in my prayers every night. My conviction, that she is in a better world right now, helps me to bare the loss. I didn’t have much contact to her over the years, nevertheless she left deep impressions in my memory. Over the last two days, I often found myself sitting and allowing my thoughts to wonder through the times I had been in touch with Michelle. I came to the astonishing result, that I never heard any word out of her mouth to let somebody else down, or to saying anything bad of him or her. Somehow she always found explanations and apologises for people’s behaviour... however they behaved. I´ll keep that in my memories. When I was in the Bavarian mountains for a couple of days two weeks ago, I took her with me every day in my thoughts to show her all the beauty of this nice place on earth. She has another perspective now.... and I hope she will love it. Thank you all for being with her in her last hours and helping her to land in the peaceful place where she is now. I worked with Michelle for many years and we had many conversations about life, children and family. She loved you all so much and was so very proud of you Heather and Daniel. To Michelle's family, I am very sorry for your loss. Michelle was such a sparkling treasure and it is hard to think that she is gone from our lives.
