I just received the devastating news that one of my favourite students at McKee Public School, Michelle Monkhouse, has passed away. I am now retired from teaching and spend much of the winter in California with my brother so I apologize for not attending Michelle's funeral or sending my condolences in February. To lose one's child is so beyond one's comprehension that I do not know what words to say to even attempt to give you the comfort and and strength you need and deserve. Your daughter is a beautiful memory in my mind and my heart aches with sadness for your family. I pray for you and your wonderful daughter. Janet Patrick

I knew Michelle for a fairly short period of time. We participated in the Interact program at Vaughan Road Academy together. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten to know Michelle, for in that short time we spent together she had an unforgettable impact on me. Never before had I met a young woman who was so beautiful, hard working, and determined as Michelle. Not only was she driven, but she was fun and made my time in the classroom that much more enjoyable. Michelle's beauty and obvious talents were powerful, and yet she was so approachable and friendly. If Michelle had such a positive influence on me, I can only imagine the affect she had on her closest family and friends. Only the most uplifting thoughts for those who knew Michelle, she will be very missed.
