Born December 11, 1921 in Tipperary, Ireland, died peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Nancy met the love of her life, Gordon, while serving in the WAAF in Derry, Northern Ireland during World War II. She came to Canada as a war bride in the spring of 1946 and began the serious work of raising a family, which eventually numbered eight children: Patricia (Douglas Scott), Kathleen, Maeve (Bruce Connell), Deirdre (Robin Hetherington), Maureen (Wayne Acton), Denis, Kevin (Heather) and Brian (Janine). She was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Scott, Ursula, Robbie, Amy, Casey, Alex, Adrian, Natalie, Matthew, Erin, Seana, Corey, Connor, and great-grandchildren, Ella and Tom.
From early childhood, music was a constant in Nancy's life and she was identified with her anthem "It's a Long Way to Tipperary".
The family lived in Vancouver, New York City, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. Nancy and Gordon spent 25 summers in Ireland at their seaside cottage on Bantry Bay with their family and Irish family and friends. In her later years, Nancy and Gordon travelled the world with only "carry on" luggage.
Throughout, Nancy found time for charitable endeavours, volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul, Good Companions, Good Shepherd and Gibson House.
Nancy spent her last 6 years at the Houses of Providence in Toronto, where she received love and excellent care. Thanks to Dr. Mallouh, Nurse Chan and the caring staff. Special thanks to Millie and Winsome.
