I am so very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of playing with Nicole when we were little at uncle Matt's.

A Two Part Tribute
Part 1 of 2

Dear Larry, Joan, Dave, Rosa and Genevieve ~

There are no words to adequately describe my feelings around the loss of your incredible Daughter, Sister, Sister-in-Law and Aunt.  Nicole loved us all unconditionally throughout her too-short life. 

It is difficult to see my dear friends of more than 50 years enduring the heartache of saying goodbye to their firstborn child – and what a child she was! I recall Nicole as a baby: good-natured and a great sleeper who sometimes had to be awakened to take her bottle.  From the time she came home from the hospital, lying between her Mom and Dad on the front seat of the car, she adjusted and contributed to their active and busy lifestyle with enthusiasm. 

As a small child, she could be satisfied with a banana until a late dinner when we drove up to the family cottage at Sauble Beach on a Friday night after work. It did not take much to entertain her.  I can recall her drinking from a bunch of mostly empty beer bottles at the cottage when she was about 3 years old - and relinquish her hold on them with a giggle once discovered.

I will never forget how Nicole would run down the hall excitedly to answer the door (which she was too small to open) when Matt and I would visit.  She would be squealing "MattTheKern" all the way and so began my nickname "The Kern". 

What a surprise when young Nicole's request for a budgie became an African Grey Parrot, complete with a cage the size of a small bedroom!  Amadeus was with her for 25 years.  Because of Nicole's devotion to and training of his successor - Indy, he will continue to thrive under care from all of you.

To me, Nicole became the 'Daughter I never had' and we grew closer as time went by.  I watched her become a great cook and an avid gardener.  Following Joan's example as an accomplished seamstress, she developed a talent for creating beautifully crocheted afghans – one of which I am proud to own.  She enjoyed driving as much as you do, Larry, and she learned many other practical life lessons from you and reflected them as she grew.

David, it was gratifying to watch Nicole's relationship with you grow into a close friendship with you and Rosa.  We know how much Nicole enjoyed the times she spent with you, Gen, and she looked forward to every one of your visits – always planning new activities.

Nicole inherited a strong work ethic from both parents.  She rose through the ranks of the Food Services industry to a Management position in Joan's footsteps.  Her desire to help others, as did Larry in his career with the Fire Department, was evident in her role as an Instructor of First Aid and Emergency Response.  Larry and Joan, you both have much of which to be proud in Nicole's legacy.

It is not often that one has the privilege of being friends with someone as unselfish, honest, compassionate and sincere as Nicole.  I am heartbroken that she can no longer share our lives.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the sudden passing of Nicole. I am deeply sorry about  her loss. Unfortunately we did not see much of each other over the years, but I certainly was happy to connect with her by e-mail or Facebook on occasion. Nicole was a person who really was friendly and very nice to talk with. I think of how my nieces and Nicole had spent so much time together and am glad they could enjoy a close relationship. Know you are very much in my thoughts & prayer. I have arranged for a Mass to be celebrated for her on Feb. 18, 2021 in our Motherhouse Chapel. I will be in touch soon.

I am so sorry to hear of Nicole's passing.    I got to see Nicole grow up when I worked with Joan at the Scarborough Civic Center.  Over the years I enjoyed catching up with Nicole at Compass Group events ever since.  She always brought a smile to my face when we recalled our early days at Beaver Foods.  I will remember her as a colleague and a friend who loved her family very much.   RIP Nicole.  You will be missed.

I have so many fond memories of Nicole, but one of my favourite memories was when I was around 14 years old and she was driving Carolyn and I to the caves when we were in Sauble. I thought she was so cool because she knew how to drive standard! It was a beautiful sunny day with the windows down and she was blaring the song, “More Then a Feeling”, by Boston. Since that day when I hear that song, I always think of that moment of the three of us singing at the top of our lungs, young and free. She was a such a wonderful person and she will be in my heart always.

Shocked and saddened to hear the news of Nicole Passing.  I have so many wonderful memories of Nicole that I will cherish, our Summers in Sauble Beach and every Thursday night at my apartment.
