Randolph Alexander Nielsen

(September 7, 1959 – May 3, 2023)

It is with great sadness that we announce his passing on May 3 at home.

Born and raised in the Toronto area and the only son of Rosemarie (Petruk) and the late Gerry Nielsen.

Randy followed in his father's footsteps having a fulfilling career as an employment recruiter for over 40 years. He took his career very seriously as he enjoyed helping people from all walks of life find the perfect fit for their career.

Randy was a devoted husband, father and son. He loved life to the fullest and family meant the world to him. Second only to his family were the numerous friends that he loved dearly. Whether it be through an intense game of hockey, a relaxing round of golf, time away on holidays or a weekend at a cottage, dedicating himself to the community which he cherished every moment with friends and thought of each one as a gift.

Randy is survived by his mother Rosemarie Nielsen, his wife Sylvia (Shewalter) and daughter Melissa. He was brother-in-law to Jocelyn (Shewalter) and Harvey Patterson. He was a wonderful son-in-law to the late William and Connie Shewalter and Stella Petruk (Grandmother). He is also survived by Nina Thomas (nee Petruk) (aunt) and the late Russell Thomas (uncle), and cousins Russell Thomas, Suzanne Maitland (nee Thomas), Gregory Thomas, Justin Thomas, Kiersten Thomas, Nicholas Maitland, Stephanie Maitland, Christopher Maitland, Cecilia Thomas and Daniel Thomas.

We would like to thank the Toronto General Hospital Lung Transplant Team, Dr. Ein and Lina Mohsen for their support and kindness.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Asbury and West United Church, 3180 Bathurst Street, Toronto (1 block north of Lawrence Avenue on the west side of Bathurst Street). Visitation starts at 1pm and reception will follow the service.
