I have a thousand if not a thousand and one things to share about Tito Lorang. 
I remember Uncle Jorgy used to eat cookies with us when my brother and I were kids (and yes, even when we were grown ups) and we'd sit with him until we both would get sick of eating sweets but he's still munching on with his beer on the side. 
He took us to our first Niagara trip the first time we visited Toronto and the walk was endless. You'd think he'd be tired of all the walking considering he's a pretty steady guy but turns out we gave up first. 
And oh boy does he love good meals. No KFC's here.
When he visited the Philippines the first time, he'd bring me all these colored pens and make fun of my black hair because I looked like a mountain woman. Proving that observation, he bought me a doll (which still sits in my room) just because he finds it funny. He had that subtle humor in him that's pretty hard to miss when you hang out with him for sometime.
When he was already sick but had moments of glee, and we were visiting Toronto for the summer, he'd wink at us when Tita Diana and him were in a couple's argument. The smirk on his face will forever be engraved in my memory.
The second time he visited the Philippines, he really was a pro and enjoyed everything exotic including Durian. 
When he went to Thailand by himself after he retired, my father was nervous of having him travel on his own but that trip just showed what an easy going and friendly guy he was as he made friends along the way. Just as when he makes friends with strangers in Florida and give them Sonja's home number. Still pretty funny.
Oh I could go endless with this.
Thank you for the memories and we'll always have them in our hearts.

Jorgy took me on a number fishing trips. This one happened to be in the Gravenhurst area. There was Jorgy, myself and Dick Miller. Jorgy said he had heard that this lake was good for fishing. After setting up the tent and dragging the boat and motor down to the lake; we set off to fish and explore the lake. We came to the end of the lake at which point there was a river. We decided to explore the river as it seemed fairly wide. The river was very calm and had many bends. The cottages along the river were many. After a number of bends we noticed there were no more cottages but we kept going enjoying the silence. Soon we could hear a constant noise but did not know what it was. As we rounded the next bend it was too late. The noise turned out to be rapids and we were caught in them. The motor was not strong enough to turn around. The rapids which were now deafening sent us toward was a brink which turned out to be a dam. About 20 yards from the brink the boat became lodged in some rocks. There we were stuck with water gushing along both sides and nobody around. Jorgy got the bright idea to tie a rope to me and said for me to make my way to shore and pull them in. As soon as I stood up the boat rocked and turned in the current and we were headed for the brink again. "Jump!!" Jorgy yelled and we all jumped out. We were swept down to the dam and managed to brace ourselves with our feet against the brink. The boat was up against our backs. Jorgy's next bright idea was for me to get up on the brink and carry the motor to shore walking along the brink and then come back for the boat. I managed to get up on the brink. Dick held the boat while Jorgy undid the motor. I managed to lift it up and carry it to shore. As I came back along the dam the current turned the boat and the boat and all of us were swept over the dam which was a 15 foot drop to a pool in the river. Fishing tackle,the gas tank,cushions,oars  and the boat were floating down the river. We managed to gather most of the stuff and put them in the boat. We dragged the boat with the gear up the hilly bank and through the brush to a road. We went back and got the motor taking turns carrying it. From the time we started collecting the floating stuff until we had everything by the side of the road not a word was spoken. Eventually a car came by and stopped. He left to get his truck and returned and we loaded up everything.He drove us soaking wet back to our tent. We knew our fishing trip was over when we saw the gaping hole in the side of the boat. We got changed into dry clothes and made a fire. Jorgy was just staring into the fire. Dick said to Jorgy: "What are you thinking about"? Jorgy replied: "the mosquitoes are bad".

Since i was 5 yrs.old(1st meeting with my dear cousin Sonja)i heard your name everyday from her,how she brags about her dad.Unfortunately our roads did not cross.I am the ONLY member of the family who haven't meet you and it saddened me.I know someday we will see each other.Good Bye Tito Lorang. Your visits in the Philippines leave fond memories.In 1968,your first visit in Sipalay when Dad and Mom were still around,it was a happy gathering welcoming you as a member of our family.There are still lots of fond memories that will be treasured in my heart. Uncle Jorgy wasn't my real uncle but he might as well have been. I spent more time with Uncle Jorgy than any of my real uncles. And of course there are Auntie Dianne and Sonja, like my little cousin. My dad and Uncle Jorgy were like brothers. They used to hang out at the Legion together. The three of us used to watch Leaf games in the winter, Jays games in the summer and play horseshoes together at our place on Lillian Street, 2 houses away from his place on Center. My first set of golf clubs were hand-me-downs from Uncle Jorgy. He could be grouchy at times, but that came with the territory and that was part of having fun with Uncle Jorgy too. But we all knew he had a big heart and was playing along half the time. Most of all though he loved his wife and daughter more than anything else in the world. Looking back, that was the most obvious thing to me. I had 2 great role models growing up on how to be a dad. RIP Uncle Jorgy.

"Uncle it's Sunday".  When I think back on "Unc.", I hear my grandmothers voice saying "Lorange it's Sunday", this was Nanny's ultimate weapon and it didn't have to be Sunday.  Anytime anyone let a bad word slip around our house you would hear "Uncle it's Sunday" (in unison).  "Pull my finger" always got a laugh as well.  Pupa loved to sit quietly and listen to his sons conversations, while Nanny simply enjoyed her prodigal sons return.  Uncle was never lost for conversation, he was a man with a world of wisdom.  Uncle could find a like or dislike from anyone and make a conversation from this.  There was no awkward silence around Unc.  I remember clearly on Christmas morning opening a gift from Uncle, a pair of pants, clearly chosen by my grandmother, and all of us found a quarter in the pocket, it was Uncle's way of marking his gift to us.  Fishing was the conversation of choice with Uncle and I.  I would tell him what I caught on my Ugly Stick with a Meps #2 Black Furry and he would grin and get that twinkle in his eye.  Uncle had a rod, reel and tackle for every fishing condition.  Uncle on this Sunday, before going to the church where you confessed you belief in Christ 40 years ago at the tender age of 12,  I say this...may you always have a quarter in your pocket and may Dave be the one to pull your finger.  I have visions of Nanny cooking a goose and Dave calling dibs on the crystallised caramel in the desert pan, while pupa sits quietly enjoying his family reunion.  God bless you Uncle.

There are many things that will remind us of you. Just to name a few; - trip to Greenhills to get pasalubong for Tita Diana and Sonja. Those "pasalubongs" eventually led to more visits to Greenhills by Tita and Sonja - more tissue paper, more tissue paper - a gift from you...Abigail's first school bag "Rugrats" - your last visit to Cebu - Your birthday...a day before mine and 2 days before Abby's You will be dearly remembered...Rest in Peace our dear Tito Lorang. To Tita & Sonja - we mourn with you. take care always.

We didn't have the opportunity to see and talk often because of distance. But the moments you spent with us during your vacations in the Philippines will always be treasured. Thank you. When we were in Davao; The early mornings hiking to the Pink Sisters Monastery up the mountain. Reaching the top you would fondly shout out " Confess all your sins!!!" followed by LOLs. Our Samal Island adventure and the cold beers under the sun in Paradise beach Resort. The downtown bar-hopping and the grilled tuna belly and "kinilaw". Your wisecracks, powerful punchlines and anecdotes with serious stories about your moose-hunting, camping and fishing adventures. You were a real presence even in ordinary occasion because you are special. You will forever be missed. The fishing rod you gave me will always remind me of you and your hobbies and how you enjoyed them in your stories. Goodbye Tito Lorang. Until we meet again. we are very sadden by the news of tito Lorang's passing. he was a great man. very adventurous, a great husband to tita Diana, a loving father to Sonja and a sweet and lovable uncle to us (nieces and nephews) he was a man full of great stories and sense of humor. we will miss you and you will always be in our hearts. for tita Diana and manang Sonja our deepest sympathy and prayers.

To Aunt Diane and Cousin Sonja: I remember the day I realized that the lady who was always so kind to us was to become my aunt and Uncle would never be alone again. I recall as a 6th grader that I now had a new cousin and thought what a lucky girl to have Uncle as her daddy. It is never easy to let go of our loved ones and difficult to believe that we will one day look back fondly with fewer tears. I take comfort in thinking of Uncle and Dave deep in conversation. Jorgy was my mother's brother and our uncle. I can remember us kids (there were 7 of us) were always excited when he came down to Niagara Falls from Toronto for a visit. He used to make us "crunchy sandwiches". He told us he was the only one in the world who knew how to make them. He would take a piece of bread and spread peanut butter, jam,bananas,and honey then cover that with soda crackers....then another slice of bread and start the process all over again and finally the top slice of bread. Ahhh....I can still taste them.


Jorgy fancied himself a barber. Once a month he would come down from Toronto to give us boys a haircut. He would get out his scissors,comb and electric clippers. Everyone wanted to be first. Nobody wanted to be last because by then the clippers were hot against the scalp. The amazing thing was when he was finished we all looked the same.......No Hair!!!!!
