
D.D.S., F.R.C.D(C), O. Ont. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2007, at his home. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Dolores, sons Rod (Voula) and David and daughter Laura (Bryan Hall) and grandchildren Nicole, Sam, Matthew, Abby and Ben. Rod spent most of his life helping those most in need disabled children. Rod was the Director of Dentistry at the Bloorview MacMillan Centre and Director of the Cleft Lip and Palate Facial Program, Drooling Control Program, Protective Headwear Program, a consultant at the Hospital for Sick Children and Associate Professor, University of Toronto. A leader in paediatric dentistry, Rod established up an outreach program for Northern Ontario that provided much needed specialized treatment to thousands of children across the province. Throughout Rod's career he held numerous titles such as President of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, President of the Canadian Dental Association, President Ontario Dental Association, National Chairman, Canadian Society of Dentistry for Children and President Canadian Dental Service Plans Inc. Rod proudly received the following recognition for his leadership in the care of handicapped children and his contribution to the dental profession: Order of Ontario, The Queens Jubilee Medal, Barnabus W. Day Award for Outstanding Service to the Ontario Dental Association, Academy of Dentistry Prize (clinical Paedodontist) Honorary Life Member Canadian Dental Association, Honorary Life Member Ontario Dental Association and Honorary Life Member Toronto Academy of Dentistry. Rod was happily married to Dolores for forty-five years and a proud father who loved his grandchildren. Rod had a love for life and people. Most will remember Rod as a very out going, gregarious person who always had a story to tell. Born in Port Arthur in 1937, Rod will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 21. Services will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church (3220 Bayview Avenue, Toronto) at 11:00 a.m. Visitation services will follow the service. Please make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association. No flowers please.
