July 7, 1932 – November 17, 2014
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our father, husband, uncle, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Ross Baker at the age of 82 years.
Ross will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years Margaret Baker (nee Holly), children; Karen Baker, Wayne (Nancy), Vickie Grossinger and Dan, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Ross was a very honest, gentle and caring man. Dad enjoyed people in general, loved to talk and entertain those around him. He had a great sense of humour and was always smiling. Ross loved to fish and was the owner and operator of what he called “The Baker School of Casting” which was run out of the back yard of the family cottage, teaching the little ones to cast with their snoopy fishing rods. He was great at woodworking and many have pieces of his work in their homes to enjoy for years to come. He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and adored his wife. Dad was interested in the world even though he never travelled, he read plenty of magazines and watched documentaries about a variety of things. He loved music and sometimes you would find him listening to the radio in his workshop and doing what I lovingly call his old man dance! Dad lived with passion, he was an optimist and his glass was always half full. He stayed that way until the very end telling me that he was getting stronger! I believe that he is somewhere now wearing a fishing hat with a rod in hand enjoying his next journey. We will all miss you!
In keeping with Ross’ wishes cremation has taken place and a private service was held.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Campbell House, his wonderful Home Care Nurses and Dr. D. Nay for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Debbie and George for always being there when he needed them.
Donations may be made in Ross’ memory to Campbell House (Collingwood, Ontario), Canadian Diabetes Association or Cancer Care.
