In his 87th year, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Antoinetta (Ann) by his side. Sam immigrated to Canada from Abruzzo, Italy in 1948, with a suitcase full of hopes and dreams. With his wife by his side he worked hard at raising his family, building his home in Willowdale and establishing himself in Canada. Sam opened his home to so many other immigrant families that he was recognized by the Governor General of Canada in 1992 and received a medal for making a significant contibution to his fellow Canadians. A strong Canadian, he was proud to be an active member of the Liberal Party for 30 years. He was honoured to have assisted his dear friend Jim Peterson M.P. throughout his political career in the Willowdale riding. In his later years he enjoyed his farm in Vineland and was known to many as Sam the Apple Man. A dreamer and problem solver, Sam will be remembered by all of those who knew him as an inventor who spent many hours in his garage creating Masterpieces. Sam touched many people in life but will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Antoinetta (Ann), his children Louise (Paul) Puopolo, Robert (Linda) Zavarella, and Linda Zavarella (Paul Witzel). He will be missed by his grandchildren who he was most proud of; Joey (Laura) Puopolo, Michael Puopolo, Ashley Zavarella, Jason Zavarella, and Rebecca Dordolo will miss their Ta-tone (Nono) very much and will keep his memory forever in their hearts. Great appreciation to all extended family and friends who visited Sam often. Your visitswere most appreciated. A special thank you to Dr. Chung for his frequent house calls and all the caregivers who supported Sam in his last year which allowed him to remain in his home.
