Following her Novitiate, she pursued the nursing profession through St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing. Throughout her life, Sister Bernadette’s primary ministry was in healthcare.
She continued her education to meet various needs from departmental management to administration. Sister Bernadette had the gift of calling forth the best in others to collaborate with her in the pursuit of excellence in healthcare. She never tired of wanting what was best for the patient, the dear neighbour. Her personal charisma and sense of humour made her a delightful presence in the healing ministry in the Congregational hospitals and nursing homes in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Comox, British Columbia. Sister Bernadette truly lived the Gospel phrase, “Whatsoever you do to the least among you, this you do to me” (Mt. 25). Following her retirement Sister Bernadette resided at St. Joseph’s Morrow Park Infirmary, and more recently at St. Joseph’s Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, where she prayed for the Congregation and the needs of the world.
