Tony Michael Hallett, brother, uncle, friend passed peacefully April 22, 2020 at home. Tony is survived by his sisters Ruth Hallett Ginman, Margo Hallett Gresser and Cynthia Hallett Newton. His nieces and nephews Mark (Shannon);Danielle (Brian); Alicia (James) Sean (Christine);Erin (Tayler) and Michael (Celia). He will be missed by his long-time friends Chaz and Anne Woody formerly of Stouffville and his four-legged “son” Hudson/Hurricane Hallett; they were soul mates.
Tony is predeceased by his mother Norah Hallett, formerly of Aurora. Tony attended Oak Ridges Public School and G.W. Williams Secondary School. He received his culinary training through George Brown College. Chef Tony was the owner/operator of a number of restaurants/bars in and around the Toronto area. His last being the Main Street Bar in Stouffville.
In a complete turn around Tony decided to become a house painter and Tony Hallett Painting was established. He was an excellent painter and had many satisfied customers.
This had been a difficult year for Tony. Recovering from cancer surgery which had left him unable to speak and with only a tube for feeding, he was forced to close his business and move to Toronto. He missed having coffee with his friends at the local coffee shop in the morning before he would head off to work.
Tony needed to be busy, so he once again took up his passion for cooking and baking. There were many great dinners and the freezers were full of lasagne and other goodies. His grand nephews Noah and Charlie will miss Uncle Tony’s chocolate chip cookies. From the eldest Kate, to the youngest SJ, Uncle Tony was proud of them all.
We are grateful to the doctors who provided care to Tony at the University Hospitals in downtown Toronto and to his family physician Dr. Blum of Stouffville who treated Tony with the care and respect he deserved. The health care professionals involved with his rehabilitation care are to be commended. Tony was grateful for the care he received from everyone involved - he wrote about it all the time. Our sister Margo opened her home to Tony when he was no longer able to live on his own. The family is thankful as was Tony. He loved his family.
Uncle Tuna, Ton, Tony, has left us for a better place. We will miss him and his uniqueness. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choosing.
