In Loving Memory...

Veni Christante

Passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday September 26, 2021, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of his late wife Mary for 57 years. Cherished father of Daniel and Michael. Loving uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA. Son of the late Lorenzo and Maria (nee Cristofoli). Predeceased by his brother Don (Anna) and sister Evelyn (Louie).

For over 42 years, Veni enjoyed a successful career with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). From his early days as a junior lab technician in training, he progressed in the company ranks to become the Corporate Secretary. In recognition of his many years of service, when he retired he was presented with a computer. He taught himself the many skills needed to navigate the digital world to the point where he was creating detailed spreadsheets to keep track of his online trading. He loved watching sports, especially baseball and hockey. He was always hopeful that the Stanley Cup would once again find its way into the hands of the Maple Leafs. In later years, he planned his day’s events around the Blue Jays game schedule.

To say that his passing has left an emptiness in our hearts is an understatement. His talent for storytelling, his wonderful sense of humour and his wise counsel will be truly missed. I am so sorry for all of your losses. I am sending you a virtual hug and hoping these memories will put a smile on your faces.

Veni's spirit was so youthful that I thought of him as one of MY friends - even at 15 years old! Our conversations never had awkward pauses. It was as if there was no generational gap whatsoever. We laughed about just about everything and anything. And he was just the greatest listener. How interested could someone in his 80s possibly be in a teenage girl's trials and tribulations? But he had this magical way of making you feel so heard with his kind smile and his warm voice that just encouraged you on throughout your story (I can just hear him saying "oh sure, yup. Sure." as he followed along closely).

I am so grateful for Veni for his many kindnesses over the years. It feels odd to call him only a friend - Veni also felt like a grandfather, mentor, and fun uncle all at the same time. We could laugh over a coffee like buds, but I also worried about getting his approval the first time Veni met my high school boyfriend! He could do it all...send emails, make iTunes playlists, and video call you from his laptop. He probably walked more kilometres per week than I did. He liked to keep people on their toes!! Every time we spoke he would casually mention something new he was doing on his computer. He was just so cool.

Veni is just the greatest example of what life can look like when you embrace the motto "you're never too old to try something new." I miss him dearly but I know he is resting in the arms of Christ and with all those beloved gone before him. I look forward to the day we meet again for coffee Veni!

With love to the Christante family,

I worked with Veni for many years at CSA. He was a wonderful person, admired by everyone. We were in brief contact some years after his retirement, and after his beloved wife passed away. Despite his loss, he was still an active, vibrant man, taking great joy in his his family and keeping busy with volunteer work. Condolences to the family. May your warm memories bring you comfort.

Dear Dan and Michael,

Your Dad, Veni left a very special impression on all our lives -- he guided us with his sense of family, his integrity, his loyalty and most of all --- his love of life. He warmed a room with his laughter and was loved and respected as a gentleman by everyone who knew him. We are blessed to have so many wonderful memories and thank him (and your Mom) for welcoming us into your family.

He will undoubtedly be missed yet --- we will hold him true in our hearts forever...
