Yvonne M. Grant

On January 13, 2011 in her 89th year, Yvonne died peacefully with her loving family at her side at York Central Hospital. Yvonne was the last remaining member of the family of the late Sig and Jessie Rumfeldt. First and foremost a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Adored wife and best friend of John S. Grant, Q.C. having celebrated 68 years of marriage. Dearly beloved mother of Mary Ann (Michael McCloskey), John Jr.(Pauline O'Neil), and Steven. Cherished Nanny-Yvonne of Deborah McCloskey (Roland Sing), Michael J. McCloskey (Rachelle), R. Paul McCloskey (Debra), Stephanie Grant (Brad Pallister), Kieran, and Melissa Grant. Treasured Great Nanny of Mary Ann, Catherine, and Isaac Sing; Madeline, Michael, Sean, and Erin McCloskey; Carmen McCloskey; and Isobel and Hamish Grant. Yvonne was an avid and highly competent golfer. A longtime member of Lambton Golf and Country Club, where she was Ladies President and Club Champion. She was also a gifted artist whose paintings are treasured by her family. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family, her extended family of Grants and Rumfeldts, in-laws Barbara and Alan Grant, Gwen and Dick Tate, Nancy Ready, Phyllis Lavelle, Peggy Grant and friends, especially Janet O'Brien, Bernadette and "Coco". Our family is very grateful for the wonderful care Yvonne received from her physicians S. Rastogi, E. Gangbar, and B. Berger. Thank you to the Emergency Department physicians and nursing team at York Central Hospital and to the angels in the Palliative Care Unit. Donations in her memory to the York Central Hospital Foundation - for use in Palliative Care, 10 Trench Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4C 4Z3 will be greatly appreciated. Friends may call on Monday, January 17, 2011 from 2 - 4 & 6 - 9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 39 Green Lane, Thornhill, ON. (905-881-2786) on Tuesday January 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception in the church hall to follow. Interment will take place at a later date.
