He was a truck driver from the age of 18, he drove for R D Lewis Banana Company in
Fowler and drove to New Orleans. That job didn’t last very long and he started driving a
bus for Fort Lyon. Sometimes he would haul kids to and from school, his boss took him
out to show him the route he would be driving. That day is when he met Emily. There
were no seats open on the bus so he had Emily sit on his lap. Apparently he asked her out
on a date a couple of weeks later and she accepted they went to a dance at Holbrook
Lake. That was in February 1948 and they got married in October of that year.
On October 15, 1948, my dad and mother eloped to Raton, New Mexico to get married.
Their best friends Wendell and Bobby Ormiston stood up for them.
Bud started driving a truck for Wright Motor Lines out of Rocky Ford from 1950 to
1966. He started out with one truck and then two more. He drove one and hired two
other guys to drive for him. One of the gentleman was Julian Baca who remained a life
long friend.
In 1968 my bud and Emily moved to Denver to run a trucking business with his brother
Jack. Afterward Bud started driving a tour bus, taking people skiing, and showing them
the sites around town. Then the owner of the bus company decided to sell it and that is
when Bud started work for King Soopers as a truck driver. He would haul meat and
produce to all the stores on his route.
In 1979 Bud suffered a heart attack followed by surgery. Emily busied herself as care
giver from then on. In a few years they moved to Pueblo West. Shortly after they moved
they got involved with the Eagles. Bud became President of the Eagles, attending
conferences including the National Eagles Convention in New York City.
His hobbies were fishing and watching sports on TV (Denver Broncos, Rockies and
watching the little leagues). Thou he tried golf it wasn't to his liking.
In 2010 they moved back to Denver to be closer to their daughter and family.
Bud is preceded in death by his loving wife Emily of 65 years of marriage, his parents
