Our mom, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, Christian sister in the Lord, friend has put on her robe and went on to glory Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 9:06am at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Missed dearly, blessed and admired by so many. Alpha Jean Griffie Sango was born in Hill City, Kansas on Friday, June 10, 1938 to the late Alvester B. Griffie (“Bird”) and LaVerne Mae Buckner Griffie. Alpha Jean was the second daughter to the family tree of Alvester and LaVerne. Her brothers and sisters: Richard Griffie of Waterloo, Iowa (deceased), Arnetta Griffie Nevins of Osborne, Kansas (deceased), Lyle (Faye) Griffie of Newton, Kansas, Loren Griffie of Hill City, Kansas (deceased), Constance “Connie” Griffie Woods of Euless, Texas, Charles Griffie of Denver, Colorado, Howard (Terry) Griffie of Topeka, Kansas. Out of this family tree grew the love and union with the late Harold Lee Sango, their children: Errol Lee (Candus) Sango of Denver, Colorado, Jennifer Lynn Sango of Aurora, Colorado, Sharon Kay Sango McConnell of Denver, Colorado, and Mark Anthony (Michelle) Sango of Denver, Colorado. Left to carry on her legacy also includes many nieces, nephews, cousins, n-laws, friends, special neighbor friend, Chris, and her church family.
Alpha Jean Sango always knew and loved the Lord. Baptized at the age of 15 years old. In her early years of life, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nicodemus, Kansas. She later joined her much loved church home, Holy Spirit Missionary Baptist Church where she served for over 50 years until the time of her death.
Alpha Jean graduated from Hill City High School in Hill City, Kansas in 1956. Jean relocated to Denver, Colorado. After being in Denver for a while, Jean was employed at the Sheraton Hotel in Denver, Colorado. She later was employed at Denver (General) Health Hospital as a Supervisor of Hospitality where she retired after over 26 years of service. After retirement, she worked part-time at Burlington Coat Factory. Jean served as an Election Judge in various elections and received a certificate for her work with Boys Town.
Alpha Jean enjoyed spending time with the joys of her life, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, church and her beloved dog Oni and Oni’s pup friend “Brownie”. She also enjoyed reading her Bible, crossword puzzles, playing solitary, board games, and watching tv (soap operas and Steve Harvey’s Family Feud were her favorites).
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished my race. I have taken off this earthly body and exchanged it for my new Heavenly body. If you could see me now, I am walking the streets of gold. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have welcomed me home. Well done, well done, my good and faithful servant, well done!”
Fond memories of Alpha and expressions of sympathy for her family may be shared at the guest book below.
