My brothers and I (who grew up across the street), feel this loss deeply.  We remember Arlena's deep, perpetual acts of  kindness towards friends and strangers--and, over the years, especially our mom, who lived across the street from her folks after we all had moved on.
She walked her talk in kindness to others--but rarely spoke of her quiet acts of goodness to troubled or  less fortunate souls--and we were all blessed with her visits and acts of goodness.
An angel.

I walked with an angel, her name was Arlena. God brought you into my life but you would always turn it around and tell me I was brought into yours. You say you learned a lot from me and I would turn and say I learned a lot from you. I have never and will never have anyone who has walked this earth who has touched my heart with such compassion as much as you.  Arlena you never judged  anyone.  You treated the homeless with the utmost respect. You would say that we do not know their story.  Thank you for showing me the way through your eyes. You never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Your compassion was immeasurable. Your love of people  was inspiring and your love of nature surpassed the expectations of even the smallest insect or thirsty plant struggle on the hot sidewalks of Denver. You were environmentally aware and did your best to recycle anything that could be recycled and involved anyone you could to contribute to the cause.  Our earth, our community, our animals all benefit from your thoughtfulness and compassion for all living things.  Now I will pay it forward and continue your legacy to the best of my abilities.  We will be friends forever.  I will love you forever. I will miss forever.

Arlena will be missed by so many in the Preschool/Child Care community.  She was a true professional with a huge heart.  She not only cared about the children she protected but she cared about the people caring for them.  I am so fortunate that I was able to get to know her through Handprints Early Education.  She always gave more than the others because she cared more than others.  I pray that God will comfort her many friends and family members.

Arlena Giurado’s legacy and light will live on because she touched and loved so many people.  I was one of those blessed and fortunate people.  Two days after her 60th. birthday (spent celebrating her life on earth with family members),  Arlena was born into eternal life.    When Saint Peter saw Arlena walking toward the pearly gates, he knew her right away, even though she wasn’t limping anymore.   Her many good works  (unknown by most, never told by Arlena to others) preceded her to heaven.  

Arlena could and did touch and listen to and love everyone - even “the untouchables” in our culture.   Who knows how many people she fed, housed, helped by giving money and anything else to persons in need?    She listened with all of her heart and helped with all of her strength and material goods.   She never complained about her numerous physical problems that gave her so much pain.  Arlena was always focused on “the other”.   Her answer to any inquiry as to her health was always, “fine”, and no further discussion of her challenges would be allowed to take place.  

I was fortunate enough to know Arlena for 59 years, having grown up across the street from the Jurata home in which she and her siblings grew up.    Arlena loved everyone regardless of race, religion, socio-economic class, educated or not, sinner or saint, sexual orientation, ethnic origin and any other differences that could be enumerated.   She literally would “not hurt a fly”.  Her love and respect for life was the beacon that lit the path of her earthly journey.

I will miss her very much while my journey on earth continues. Nevertheless, I will see her again.  But she’ll be different - no pain, no tears, no suffering anywhere for her to worry about and respond to.   She’ll be that young woman Arlena , beautiful and kind, full of life, chopping wood in the mountains by her little caboose.   I’m sure heaven has little cabooses and mountains among its many “mansions”.  And her little cat will follow her everywhere.

We are so saddened by the loss of a truly wonderful friend/ person, Arlena. She was so caring of others that she did more for them than she did for herself. Our families were very close. We got together all the time and we all had way to much fun. Arlena always had the nicest smile and she was always ready to go. During the last 5 years we had the pleasure of getting to know Arlena more. She would light up the room wherever she was and she would make your day. God bless you Arlena and you will never be forgotten. Say hi and give all hugs and kisses to everyone upon arrival. We all love you.

I'm sincerely sorry for your loss of Arlena. I'm a co-worker from the West slope and didn't know Arlena well, but the time we spent together showed her to be a very special lady.

Arlena was a special co-worker whose smile I am going to miss dearly.  I am very saddened that she is gone.  Peace and comfort to the family of this wonderful woman....

We are so saddened by the loss of our dear friend, Arlena. She was the most genuine, compassionate, loving person we have ever known. She lived and worked for others her whole life. She was a guardian angel to hundreds of people. I believe she is responsible for saving numerous lives through her charitable and personal contributions. She is responsible for saving my sister Debra Bailey in ways we were unable to. She was a best friend to her, her confidant, her mentor, her support, her educator. We are devastated that she is gone but her memory will never leave us. We and hundreds of people loved Arlena more than I believe she knew.
Our heart and prayers go out to her loving family and friends.
