Barbara Lou Heiberger was born in Mitchell SD March 3, 1952 to Louis and Clarabell (Kappenman) Heiberger. She started school in Dolton, SD then moved to Marion, SD and graduated from Marion High School in 1970. Barb took a big leap, and moved to the big city, Denver, in 1976. On St. Patrick's Day that same year, fate struck. She met the love of her life, Rich, at the Lighthouse bar. It was pretty much love at first sight. They were Married on May 28, 1977, Mrs. Richard Mashek. Zach came along in 1979 and Ben was born in 1982, they were the apples of her eye.
Barb loved to travel, take pictures, especially the beautiful Colorado scenery, camp and fish all over Colorado, and help the kids with school projects and help coach baseball. She had an adventurous side, too. She went on cross country motorcycle trips all over the southwest, which included baseball spring training trips to Arizona. When the motorcycle days were done, she traveled the country in a vintage Corvette. The next step was RVing, all over Colorado and traveling the back roads of the west and mid west.
Her family was very important to her. She made many trips back to South Dakota, sometimes by herself, and sometimes with two kids and a tent trailer. She was fearless.
The American Legion Post 22 was her favorite place, especially after her health started to fail. Great people that are so friendly and supportive. All in all , she had a wonderful and fulfilling life.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rich, her two sons, Zach (Breanne) Mashek, who live in Utah, Ben (Christian) Mashek, who live in Commerce City, Colorado, Natalie, and Camden, the two perfect grandchildren who live in Utah with Zach and Breanne.
