Charles Reid Baumert, or "Chuck" as everyone knew him, was born February 25, 1934 to John M. Baumert and Edith Reid Baumert in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Chuck was preceded in death by both parents, his older brother, John "Sid" Baumert (Maria) and his wife of 34 years, Joyce Hottman-Page. He is survived by sons Rollin Page Sr., William Page (Valarie), sister-in-law Corinne Martin, daughter-in-law Cathy Koch, grandchildren Rollin Page Jr., Stacy Page, Rochelle Page, Randolf Waters (Cassie), special nephew George Baumert, special great-granddaughter Marilyn Page and eleven other great-grandchildren.
Chuck was baptized into the Christian faith and attended church regularly. He attended public school in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He went to Shawnee High School where he excelled in football as a running back. He made several touchdowns, earning him his high school letter. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1952. He then went to Oklahoma State College for one year. Upon the unexpected death of his father, he left college to help run the family business, Shawnee Candy and Tobacco Co., where he processed orders for delivery. The business was eventually sold, so he returned to college. He enrolled in Oklahoma Baptist University where he graduated with a degree in business. After college graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1957-1963. He did his basic training at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas. He was in D-Battery, 4th Battalion, Field Artillery (heavy weapons). He then went to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, for advanced training. Later he served with the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. He was an honorably discharged Veteran.
After his military service, he joined The American Legion and AMVETS. He was a charter and life member of AMVETS. He was a Free Mason and member of Masonic Lodge #27. At one time or another, he was a member of the Shriners, the Elks Lodge, Broomfield Rotary Club, North Metro Chamber of Commerce, American Dry-Cleaning Association and the National Fabricare Association.
Chuck enjoyed swimming, playing baseball and was an avid golfer. He spent many hours golfing with his grandson Rollin Page. He loved the Golf Expo and would make it a point to attend every year.
He dabbled in insurance for a while and then went to work for Texaco Inc. in marketing, in Oklahoma and Texas. Texaco then transferred him to Pierre, South Dakota, where he became the District Sales Supervisor for Western South Dakota and Eastern Wyoming. While in South Dakota, he was appointed to The South Dakota Petroleum Board by Governor Richard Kneip. During this time, he met and married Joyce Hottman-Page. They were married on May 2, 1976. He then transferred to Chicago, where he covered three states as part of his duties.
After 14 years with Texaco, he and his wife Joyce decided it was time for a change. They moved to Colorado, where they built a dry-cleaning corporation. Along with son Rollie, they built a business with four dry-cleaning stores. Between the four stores they had numerous business accounts as well as personal dry-cleaning services. They continued with this business, he was President of Huron Plaza Merchants Association. As time went on and health issues became a concern, the decision to sell the business was made.
After the corporation sale, Chuck went to work (more of a hobby) at O'Meara Ford as a courtesy driver. He also played a lot of Golf! He and Joyce also traveled to California, Arizona, and Florida. After Joyce's passing, Chuck settled in Mesquite, Nevada. He took occasional trips with his son Rollie. One of his most memorable excursions was to Hawaii with Rollie, where they visited Pearl Harbor. He loved the Broncos and would get highly upset when they lost. He had a great love of Cadillacs. Over the years he owned five Cadillacs. Another one of his great loves was his Sheltie Collie, Jinger. She was forever by his side.
If you knew Chuck, you knew he was opinionated and outspoken. That was Chuck.
Mesquite was where he spent his final days. He passed peacefully with his longtime caretaker, Cathy, by his side.
