

Charles Matthew Hernandez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, whose kindness and loyalty touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28th, 2025, in Lakewood, Colorado. He was 68 years old and surrounded by the warmth of his family and cherished friends.
Born to Fidel and Sally Hernandez on March 21, 1957, in San Marcos, Texas, Charles lived a life anchored by a strong faith and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones. He was the person you could always count on, a pillar of support and a source of comfort. His enthusiasm for life extended to the world of sports, where he was a devoted fan of football, passionately following the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and Colorado Buffaloes. Charles's love for music was equally diverse, with a deep appreciation for genres ranging from R&B and soul to the storytelling of country. He found joy in exploring new places, often drawn to the tranquility of beaches and the refreshing embrace of a pool. In the kitchen, Charles was in his element, whether starting the day with a hearty breakfast or bringing everyone together with his delicious grilling at family gatherings.
However, it was his connections with family and friends that truly defined Charles's life. He treasured every moment spent with them, creating bonds that were strong and lasting. His was a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Fidel and Sally Hernandez, of Kyle, Texas, and Longmont, Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette, of Lakewood, Colorado. His memory will also be cherished by his siblings: Linda Hernandez of San Marcos, Texas; Fidel (JR) Hernandez of San Marcos, Texas; Vincent Hernandez and his wife, Ramona, of Frederick, Colorado; Carol Roberts and her husband, Loren, of Bulverde, Texas; and Dawn Hernandez of Wimberley, Texas. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: Jared Hernandez, and his wife, Megan, of Fort Worth, Texas, and their children, Hudson and Hattie; daughter, Dani Hernandez, of Denver, Colorado. Step-children Michelle Lopez and her husband, Justin, and their children, Allaria and Justin, Jr.; Michael Barela and his children, Noah and Brooklyn; Brandi Rubio and her husband Gustavo Montes and their children, Gionni and Oliver; and Dominic Rubio. Along with numerous nieces and nephews who will also hold his memory dear.
