Connie passed away on June 20, 2023 at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, CO. She was born on October 4, 1946 to Ivan and Druella (Rose) Hohnstein in Hastings, NE. Growing up she enjoyed being a part of the marching band; she twirled the baton and played the trombone. She followed her father and grandfather’s footsteps by getting involved with various hobbies.
On December 22, 1946, Mike Mullen was leaving Eastgate restaurant and Connie was on her way in with four friends. Mike picked her up, carried her in and bought the group breakfast. This was the beginning of a love that lasted over 56 years and will an eternity. While raising two incredible sons in Columbus, NE, Connie worked as an Optical Technician with no prior training for about 25 years. She also served on the parish council at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. From 1989 to 1998 she and Mike lived in Yankton, SD where she was a homemaker. In November of 1998, Connie and Mike moved to Westminster, CO to be closer to their sons. She was Head Usher at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church for 15 years and also worked as an HR Assistant, again, with no prior training.
Her thoughtfulness knew no bounds as she always put others ahead of herself even when she was having the roughest of days. She applied her creative talent using a wide variety of mediums and cherished sharing it with her granddaughters. Connie’s favorite holiday was Christmas and it was fun adding to her Santa Claus collection. She also enjoyed going to antique shops and amassed a beautiful collection of pewter. She loved the Colorado Mountains but will forever be a Husker!
Connie is preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Terry Hohnstein. She leaves behind her husband, Mike, two children, Timm (Carol) Mullen and Todd (Lisa) Mullen, and two grandchildren, Samantha and Taryn.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation on Monday, June 26 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary, Thornton, CO.
