

Passed away on January 13, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital North in Westminster, Colorado. Son of Henry Clay Beitler and Ella Gretta Voorhees. He was born September 28, 1919 in East Millstone, NJ. The family moved to Webster County, NE in 1921. David graduated from Cowles High School in 1937. From 1937 to 1939 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He entered the Army in November 18, 1942. He served in the Coast Artillery , then in the Field Artillary at Fort Brag. He was a S/Sgt in charge of the motor pool. Discharged February 5, 1946, he went to work at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings, NE. He then started farming and then had the grocery store in Cowles, NE. In 1950 David and Otto Pomper and Johnny Beitler and other veterans started American Legion Post #116 in Cowles, NE. He was a charter member and really proud and happy that he was able to get a Legion Post in Cowles. He worked in Thule Greenland for 2 summers building an Artillary Base there. In 1958 he went to Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. Then after graduating went to work at Peterson Field in Colorado Springs, CO. Then to Denver, CO where he was a diesel mechanic for Burlington Trailways Company. He married Elsie Olivas on November 9, 1973. He retired from the Bus Company. He enjoyed his family, traveling, gardening, and especially wood work. He always took an interest in the Legion Post #116 in Cowles,. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Trumbull, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Beitler and her parents; his older brother Henry Clay Beitler Jr. and his wife Frances; his nephew Donald Richard Beitler ; his nephew George Michael Reichstein; brother-in-law Douglas (Swede) Reichstein (husband of Ruth Reichstein). He is survived by his sister Ruth Reichstein of Hastings, NE; his sister Helen Graham and husband Pete of Juanita, his brothers Evan W. Beitler and Donna of Trumbull, NE and brother Richard V. Beitler of Hastings, NE; his step-daughter Bonnie Gregory and family in Brighton, CO, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Graveside service, Wednesday, January 21, 2015, 11:30am at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
