David Durst III was born in 1939 in Austin, TX, to Ethel Mae Washington and David Durst Jr., and relocated to Denver, Colorado in the same year. He attended Denver Public schools, and in his free time, he enjoyed watching Hopalong Cassidy westerns. David perfected his skills of playing marbles, which earned him a City Marble Championship. David proudly joined the Marines in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Following his military service, David worked tirelessly for many years at the Denver Housing Authority, retiring as a DHA Field Foreman. After his retirement, he successfully owned and operated a Small Engine Repair and Lawn Care business for several years after obtaining an Associate Degree in Small Engine Repair. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, singing, and listening to the soulful 60’s music of Sam Cooke, B.B. King, Otis Redding, and Marty Robbins.
David is survived by his devoted and loving wife Zenobia, daughters Sherry Durst (husband Jim Peterson), Tracey Harris (husband Richard Harris), and Carole Durst (husband Jeffrey Darkis); grandsons Michael Crawford and Cameron Durst; and his sister Deborah Durst. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and David, and his brothers, Timothy Durst and Michael Durst.
