David Victor Hoffman

Born on August 2, 1948, in Broomfield, Colorado, Dave attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for creativity and art.

Dave went on to have an incredible career eventually owning his own company, Image Corp, where his creativity extended into graphic design and event production. Art was never simply a career for Dave, it was a part of who he was.

Following retirement, Dave continued to explore his passion for fine art. A lifelong artist skilled in both drawing and painting, he was always experimenting and finding new ways to create. His later work evolved into complex, layered epoxy-resin paintings that increasingly took on a sculptural quality. He also pushed traditional boundaries by combining unexpected media, including bronze sculpture with glass. His willingness to experiment and continue evolving as an artist reflected the creativity and curiosity he carried throughout his life.

Dave was also a true athlete and adventurer. Over the years, he enjoyed scuba diving, golf, parasailing, biking, tennis, kayaking, fly fishing and Tai Chi. One of his more recent passions was table tennis, where his athletic and competitive spirit continued to shine. He traveled extensively throughout his life, but among all the places he experienced, his favorites were home, Akumal, Mexico, and Pinecliffe, Colorado.

Dave was also a proud member of the Optimist Club, an organization he was honored to be a part of and that held a special place in his life.

In October 2007, Dave met Kathleen through her co-worker and his neighbor, at a small dinner party. Conversation came easily, and the two began dating soon after. They married in Denver on December 23, 2008, just before traveling to Philadelphia to celebrate Christmas with Kathleen’s family as newlyweds.

Yet, more than his career, his artwork or his many interests, Dave will be remembered for the way he showed up for the people he loved. He was patient and soft-spoken, present and nonjudgmental. He was an active listener. The kind of person who truly listened when someone spoke and gave those around him the space to simply be themselves. Those quiet qualities made a lasting impact on his family and the people fortunate enough to know him.

Dave is survived by his wife, Kathleen Collins; his two daughters, Kimberly Egan Buwalda and Cassandra Duncan; his three grandchildren, Bridget Egan, Benjamin Egan and Bailey Duncan; his sons-in-law, Peter Buwalda and Tyler Duncan; and his nephew, Daniel Hoffman.

His family will remember not only everything Dave accomplished during his 78 years, but the artist, athlete, husband, father, grandfather and uncle he was, and most importantly, the gentle, patient and steady presence he brought into their lives.

A Celebration of Life honoring Dave will be held on October 24, 2026. Additional details will be shared with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that memorial contributions in Dave’s name be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation or the ASPCA.
