Donald was born in El Dorado, AR on September 13, 1938. After 30 years of distinguished service, he retired from the U.S. Navy having served in Vietnam on a submarine. In recognition of his service, Donald was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (3 awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defence Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal (3 Stars), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Action with Gold Palm) Medal, and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross (with Gold Palm). Donald worked as an Electrical Repairman. Donald was a proud veteran who utilized his skills in the UAE Dubai for 10 years working on oil rigs. He and his wife Shirley were able to visit many countries together, and he always made sure to help out his family. Donald had a playful side too, often pulling pranks with his stepdaughter Kim. He was relaxed and kind, as well as an excellent writer and poet. Donald enjoyed fishing, country music, and playing the guitar.
Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley Allen; stepdaughters, Sheri Pixler and Kim Duran (Rick); son, Chris Allen; daughter, Susan Allen; grandchildren, Rhiannon Collado (Rob), Jesse Pixler (Desiree), Michael Lemieux, and 5 greatgrandchildren; brother, Robert Allen; and sister, Cherry Smith. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Aden Burton (A.B.) Allen and Clara Bell (Johnson) Allen; his sister, Dorothy Sublett Seifert; and his brother, A.B. Allen, Jr. A graveside service for Donald will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thornton, CO. Family and friends are invited to express their condolences and share memories of Donald at this service.
