Doris Jean Nelson, 84, of Thornton, CO peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017. Celebration of Doris’ life will be held on at 1 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Olinger Highland Mortuary in Thornton, CO.

Doris spent her early years in Connecticut and eventually followed her husband (A. Howard Nelson) to Colorado. Doris enjoyed boating on Long Island Sound and spending summer’s on Sheffield Island with her family while in Connecticut.

Doris cherished spending time reading, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and being with family. Doris was an accomplished seamstress; she created her daughter’s wedding dress and the accompanying maid of honor dress. She enjoyed many summers at Jackson Lake with her children, and grand-children creating life long memories.

Doris survived by her son Keith Nelson and his wife, Christine (Berthoud, CO); her daughter, Lory Nelson (Thornton, CO); her daughter, Joyce Nunnery and her husband, Steve (Firestone, CO). Grand-children, Jeremy Nelson and his wife, Jessica (Firestone, CO); Brittany Elkins and her husband Matt (Loveland, CO); Jean Stefanski (Clifton, CO) and Devin Stefanski (Houston, TX); Brandon Nunnery and his wife Shyanne (Mead, CO); Corporal Chad Nunnery (Camp Pendleton, CA); great-grand children, Kennedy and Jackson Nelson (Firestone, CO); Brandon and Autumn (Rosie) Nunnery (Mead, CO).
