

Dorothy Jane Weis was born on July 27, 1932, in Wallace County, KS, to Albert Leonard and Ruth Marie (Cole) Weis. She was the second child of fourteen children. Dorothy graduated from Weskan High School (Kansas) in 1950. She was a very proud member of the championship volleyball team while there.
Dorothy married Harland E Smith on May 25, 1952, in Sharon Spring, Kansas. To this union were born three children, Rena Kay, Nyla Jo, and Kerry Dean. Dorothy was a stay at home mother most of her children’s young lives, volunteering at their school, and 4-H club and Sunday School. She was a seamstress, making most of her children’s clothes. As her children became older, Dorothy took a job as a decorator. She then worked as an assistant manager, and later as the manager of Komac Paint Store in Greeley, Colorado.
Dorothy was a member of the Broomfield (Colorado) United Methodist Church and was an active member in all the churches of which she was a member.
Dorothy was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She held several offices at post and district level. She was a big supporter of her husband work in Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Rena Smith of Paola, KS, son Kerry and wife Barbara of Beaverton, OR, son-in-law Ray Seela of Greeley, CO, granddaughter Alexis (Brian) Carideo of Sherwood, OR, grandson Jason Young of Beaverton, OR, and great grandchildren Federico and Cassidy Carideo. Also surviving are Dorothy’s brothers, Gerald Weis, Ray Weis, Raymond Weis, Clarence Weis, Larry Weis and sisters, Susan Weis, Rose Ann Shelton, Karol Elliott, Linda White, Betty Weis, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Harland E Smith, daughter, Nyla Jo Seela, parents, Albert and Ruth Weis, brothers, Charles Leonard Weis and Howard Weis, sister, Millie Goode nephews, John Leonard Weis, and Dennis Weis.
