Robert Barney Dallenbach, Ph.D., 97, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away on March 16, 2024. He was born August 6, 1927, in Milltown, New Jersey to Jacob and Bertha Dallenbach. From age twelve to seventeen Robert was a Boy Scout, achieving top honors as a Lone Eagle Scout. He and his siblings attended Zarephath Preparatory School in New Jersey where he met his future wife, Pauline Alma White, the granddaughter of Alma Bridwell White who was the founder of the Pillar of Fire Church, headquartered at Zarephath. They were married September 16, 1949, and had two children, Alma Beth “Heidi” Walker (John), and Joel William.
Robert felt the call to preach as a high school teenager. He devoted his entire life to spreading the Gospel. After he and Pauline moved to Colorado, he became pastor at the Pillar of Fire location in Denver, eventually was ordained Bishop, and served as Chief Superintendent of the International Pillar of Fire Church.
Throughout his life, Robert dedicated himself to education. He completed his seminary and mathematics degrees at Alma White College at Zarephath and Belleview College in Colorado. He obtained a master’s degree in physics from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Throughout those years of intense study, he carried numerous other heavy responsibilities. He was a much-loved teacher at Belleview Schools, impacting hundreds of students with his kindness, wit, and generosity. He scoured pawn shops and thrift stores to provide hundreds of items for student use, including cameras, skates, skis, and every sort of sports equipment. He and Pauline opened their home to student gatherings and organized skating events, ski trips, and field trips.
Robert became interested in photography as a teenager. This interest developed into a lifelong avocation–he always carried a camera with him and chronicled every event he attended. Even as a young person, he shared his love of photography with his fellow students. He generously providing a first camera to many and helped several become career photographers. Robert provided images for the many publications produced by the Pillar of Fire. He photographed every funeral, wedding, school and church event and graciously gave copies to the families.
Robert was involved in broadcasting on all Pillar of Fire radio stations and was active in the association of National Religious Broadcasters. He was the general manager of KPOF radio in Westminster and produced a daily program of spiritual outreach which developed a large, devoted following in the Colorado community. For many years he recorded and broadcast the Brico Symphony, the community orchestra in which his wife, Pauline, played the violin. Both Robert and Pauline were accomplished musicians and loved sharing the joy of classical music.
Robert and Pauline delighted in the beauty of Colorful Colorado and spent much of their free time hiking, skiing and picnicking in the majestic Rockies. They passed on us, Heidi and Joel, their love of the mountains, photography, music, and most of all, living with the Holy Spirit’s blessing and power. We had the privilege of ushering our Father into heaven over several days with prayers, songs, and Bible reading. Just as Joel finished reading one of Dad’s favorite passages in Philippians, he took his last breath. Our parents blessed our spiritual lives with an example of faithful living for Jesus. They are now together in the next world, and we are eager to see them again when our time comes.
Robert was predeceased by his wife of seventy years, Pauline; his mother, Bertha Christiansen Dallenbach; father, Jacob Dallenbach; sisters, Martha Schlenk and Ruth Crawford; and brother, Wally Dallenbach.
The funeral service will be held at Alma Temple, 1302 Sherman Street, Denver, CO, on Friday March 28 at 1:00 PM. A procession will drive to Belleview Cemetery for interment and a reception will follow at Belleview College, 3455 W 83rd Ave, Westminster, CO 80031.
