A Page Turned, A Chapter Closed: On September 20, 1989 God blessed our family with a precious jewel, Esco Carlyle Bates II. This handsome son was born to Esco Carlyle Bates and Darlene J. Williams in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in Aurora, CO with the help of Michael J. Henderson, Sr. and Tavedda Jones. Esco, or Sco as was affectionately called, was born 11 months after his older sister Sable A. Bates. He spent many loving and fun times with his older brothers, Michael, Virgil, DeJon, Vernon, and his sister, Marissa Henderson.
Growing up Esco had many awards from sport endeavors which included Swimming, Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse, however he had many talents and his enthusiasm for sports kept him in the game. His real passion was with the joy of fishing. He attended Hinckley High school and received his high school diploma from Urban Peak. He attended The Community College of Denver. As a young child, youth and into his adulthood, Esco was an avid reader and wrote with much poise and character, with which he is recognized as a published writer.
On September 29, 2015 Esco found his special love and united with Jasmine Coleman in marriage. Together Esco and Jasmine brought two beautiful children into their world, Elyza Casey Bates (7) Esco Carlyle Bates III (5). Esco also has an older daughter Saleyia K. Walker from a previous relationship.
Esco took pride in owning and operating several businesses. His company, Bates Transportation LLC,
was a source of pride, as well as providing a comfortable income for him and his family. He was instrumental in assisting some of his family members with stable income. He worked hard in any position he held. Additionally, Esco trained and became a skilled Tattoo Artist which gave him even more opportunity to express his artistic side.
He coined himself “A mans man”, meaning he could accomplish anything he set his mind to and was always seeking new and inventive opportunities for himself and others. Esco encouraged anyone around him to seek greatness and there is nothing that anyone cannot accomplish. He always had an encouraging word to share. One of Esco’s most memorable attributes was his smile that could brighten a whole room. With an affectionate laugh to go with it. He enjoyed spending his time with family but most of all his children who were his pride and joy. Two of his most favorite things to do were taking his son “Lil Sco” fishing, Tae Kwon Do and watching his princess, “Lyzabeth”, dance. He was so proud to escort her to her first father/daughter dance.
At times Esco was a complex person but he always loved, he loved his family, he loved his friends but most of all he loved his children. Esco has touched so many people's lives in so many ways in such a short time that it is amazing to hear how he was there for so many such, a warrior. For those of you that didn't know, Esco means "Great Warrior".
Esco was guided by the Lord and was baptized at New Covenant Christian Church when he was 10 years old. Since then, he was involved and knowledgeable about the Christian faith, but in most recent time, he sought spiritual guidance through the Holy Bible and meditated and fasted on the word. His Godparents, Ronald and Angela Whittingham, and Jehn-ai Jackson were loving and caring. Throughout his life Esco had many people who loved and cherished him, but there was a special bond and bonus mother, Momma Gucci, who embraced and loved Esco as her own son.At times Esco was a complex person but he always loved, he loved his family, he loved his friends but most of all he loved his children. Esco has touched so many people's lives in so many ways in such a short time that it is amazing to hear how he was there for so many such, a warrior. Esco leaves to cherish his memory his wife Jasmine Bates; his much-loved children: (Sco) (Lyzabeth) (Laylay); his beloved Mother (Mom Dukes); Esco Bates Sr. (Dad); Taveeda Jones (Momma Gucci); Michael Henderson Sr. (Pops); sisters: Sable Bates (DJ Sabes) and Marissa Henderson; brothers: Vernon A. Mickel (Tony); Michael Henderson Jr. (MJ); his grandfather, William Williams, Godparents: Ronald Whittingham, Jehn-ai Jackson and Yvonne Armstrong; with a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends as well as loving and caring in-laws.
Esco was preceded in death by his grandmother Helen Smith, and his cousin DeJon Williams.
He will be forever missed.
